Meet Marie Yazawa, an international UN Volunteer from Japan who is currently serving as a Health and Nutrition Officer for UNICEF in the Solomon Islands.

Marie’s mission is to ensure every child gets a healthy start. She supports a major school health and nutrition initiative funded by the Government of Japan, focusing directly on improving school meals in Isabel and Western Provinces.

For Marie, this mission is deeply personal.

We are proud to see our newly deployed Pacific Office in Fiji on the ground in Western Province, Solomon Islands. 👏

Working alongside OCHA Office of the Pacific Islands and partners, these volunteers are leading vital data collection efforts following Tropical Cyclone Maila.

The insights they gather from local communities will directly shape immediate relief and ensure future humanitarian aid is effective, coordinated and tailored to real needs.
