A Ukrainian cultural diplomacy hub in the heart of Denmark’s capital, Ukraine House is a home away from home for Ukrainians, and an accessible, interactive platform for Danes wishing to delve deeper into Ukraine’s centuries-old cultural heritage. We strive to explore and build more bridges between Denmark’s and Ukraine’s rich historical ties, social codes, and creative industries. Our mission is to encourage Danish-Ukrainian collaboration and exchange of ideas within the global cultural sphere so as to collectively work towards a secure, peaceful future. We facilitate the promotion of Ukraine’s heritage, contemporary culture, and innovative creative entrepreneurship to initiate opportunities of collaboration between Ukraine and other Nordic countries in areas of commonality previously unknown to the Scandinavian public. We believe that the deepening of intercultural dialogue will positively impact the Ukrainian-Danish collaboration and strengthen the countries’ cultural connections.

A photo exhibition about the people who keep Ukraine moving. 🚆🇺🇦

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine’s railway system has played a vital role in keeping the country connected. Railway workers have helped evacuate millions of civilians, transport essential supplies and maintain connections between communities across Ukraine often while working under extraordinary and dangerous conditions.

On 13 November, join us for the opening of Iron People – Life and War Along the Railways in Ukraine, an exhibition by Dutch photographer Jelle Krings documenting the people who have kept Ukraine’s railways running throughout the war.

Through powerful photography and personal stories, Iron People offers an intimate perspective on resilience, everyday life and the human realities of war.

During the opening, Jelle Krings will present the project and share the stories behind his work. Afterwards, we invite you to stay for a reception with w**e and light refreshments.

En fotoudstilling om de mennesker der holder Ukraine i bevægelse. 🚆🇺🇦

Siden begyndelsen af Ruslands fuldskalainvasion har Ukraines jernbanesystem spillet en afgørende rolle i at holde landet forbundet. Jernbanearbejdere har hjulpet med at evakuere millioner af civile, transportere livsvigtige forsyninger og opretholde forbindelsen mellem lokalsamfundet på tværs af Ukraine ofte under ekstraordinære og farlige forhold.

Den 13. november inviterer vi til åbningen af Iron People – Life and War Along the Railways in Ukraine, en udstilling af den hollandske fotograf Jelle Krings, som dokumenterer de mennesker, der har holdt Ukraines jernbaner kørende gennem krigen.

Gennem stærke fotografier og personlige fortællinger giver Iron People et intimt indblik i modstandskraft, hverdagsliv og krigens menneskelige virkelighed.

Ved åbningen præsenterer Jelle Krings projektet og fortæller historierne bag sit arbejde. Efterfølgende inviterer vi til reception med vin og lette forfriskninger.

Join us this November for conversations about history, literature and democracy, explore Ukrainian culture through art and music, take part in a workshop, or come together with us in remembrance.

We begin with acclaimed Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko (Оксана Забужко) and her lecture "The European Passport: How Lesia Ukrainka Wrote Ukraine into European History". The following day, our Ukraine’s European History series, developed together with Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen, continues with a conversation about Ukraine in the “Soviet Century”. Later that week, we turn to the challenges of foreign information manipulation, with lessons from Moldova and the Eastern Partnership.

There’s much more to look forward to throughout the month: join us for Iron People by Jelle Krings, explore NAЇV – Visions of Ukraine on a guided tour, or get creative at our Vytynanka and Ukrainian Embroidery workshops. Discover decades of Ukrainian popular music with Albert Tsukrenko at Ukrainian Retro, and practise your Ukrainian at our monthly Language Café.

On 28 November, we come together for Holodomor Remembrance Day to light a candle and remember the millions of lives lost during the man-made famine of 1932–33.

Kom med os denne november til samtaler om historie, litteratur og demokrati, oplev ukrainsk kultur gennem kunst og musik, deltag i en workshop, eller vær med når vi samles for at mindes Holdomor.

Vi begynder måneden med den anerkendte ukrainske forfatter Oksana Zabuzhko og hendes foredrag "The European Passport: How Lesia Ukrainka Wrote Ukraine into European History". Dagen efter fortsætter vores Ukraine’s European History-serie, udviklet i samarbejde med Københavns Universitet, med en samtale om Ukraine i det "sovjetiske århundrede”. Day one of Bogforum 2026! 📚

Yesterday, we opened our stand at Bogforum for the second year in a row, bringing Ukrainian literature to Danish readers.

We talked about Ukrainian poetry in Danish translation with Thorvald Berthelsen and Niels Hav, explored translating Hans Christian Andersen into Ukrainian with Inga Kapustian, and welcomed visitors to discover Ukrainian books and our exhibition Voices of Dignity: Literature of Resistance.

How do we protect our democracies from foreign information manipulation?

On 6 November, we welcome WatchDog.MD to Ukraine House in Denmark for a conversation about disinformation, foreign interference and democratic resilience.

Based in Moldova, WatchDog.MD works to understand and counter attempts to manipulate public opinion and democratic processes. Drawing on experiences from Moldova and the Eastern Partnership, we will look at how these tactics work and what governments, civil society, media and citizens can do to respond.

We will be joined by Valeriu Pașa, co-founder and Chairman of WatchDog.MD, Ecaterina Casinge, Board Member and former Head of Cabinet to Moldovan President Maia Sandu, and Lisbeth Pilegaard, the chair of the Executive Committee of the European Endowment for Democracy.

Join us for an afternoon of insights, discussion and perspectives from a region on the frontline of foreign information manipulation.

From 30 October to 1 November, we're bringing Ukrainian literature to Bogforum, with conversations about the books, their authors and the people bringing them to Danish readers.

Here's who you'll meet:

🇺🇦 How did Soviet rule shape Ukraine and why does that history still matter today?

Soviet rule reshaped Ukraine’s borders, institutions and everyday life.

It also brought famine, mass repression and sustained attacks on Ukrainian language and culture. Across these decades, Ukrainians continued to create, defend their rights and challenge the limits imposed on them.

On 5 November, join us for “Ukraine in the ‘Soviet Century’”, examining this history and its legacies.

Joining us as speakers:

🔹 Dr. Olena Palko — historian and Assistant Professor of East European History at the University of Basel. She is the author of "Making Ukraine Soviet: Literature and Cultural Politics under Lenin and Stalin" (2021), an award-winning study of the political and cultural processes that shaped Soviet Ukraine.

🔹 Dr. Andriy Zayarnyuk — historian and Professor of History at the University of Winnipeg. He is the author of "Lviv’s Uncertain Destination" (2020) and "Framing the Ukrainian Peasantry in Habsburg Galicia" (2013), with research spanning Ukrainian history, nationalism, empire and identity.

The conversation will be joined by Dr. Vera Skvirskaja, Associate Professor at the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies at the University of Copenhagen, as discussant.

The panel will explore the relationship between Soviet power and Ukrainian identity, the experiences of different communities, and the forms of cultural and political resistance that developed under Soviet rule.

Understanding these histories also helps us recognise what is invoked, contested or obscured when the Soviet past enters public debate today.

This panel discussion is the third event in our series, Ukraine’s European History — a series exploring Ukraine’s place in the wider history of Europe.

🎶 Ukrainian retro through the music, stories and memories behind it.

For the first time, Ukrainian musician, journalist and researcher of Ukrainian retro Albert Tsukrenko is coming to Ukraine House with his new project ALBERTZ UKRENKO.

On 20 November, Albert will combine live music and storytelling to take us through decades of Ukrainian popular culture.

In his lecture “65 Years in an Hour: A History of Mistakes in Ukrainian Popular Music,” he explores how Ukrainian pop evolved from the Soviet period to independent Ukraine, and how its music reflected a changing society, culture and sense of identity.

As a musician himself, a member of Khamerman Znyshchuye Virusy and a long-time researcher of Ukrainian popular culture, Albert brings both personal experience and years of research to the story of Ukrainian retro.

Join us for his first visit to Ukraine House and an evening of fascinating stories and plenty of live music. 🇺🇦🎵
