This Pride Month, and all year long, we celebrate and uplift the 2SLGBTQI+ workers and leaders who make our movement strong.

2SLGBTQI+ workers continue to be disproportionately impacted by the affordability crisis and by discrimination, harassment, and violence inside and outside the workplace.

Unions have been an essential part of the fight for equal rights, from using collective bargaining to achieve equal recognition for same s*x spouses to pioneering anti-discrimination policies.

2SLGBTQI+ union members will continue to be at the forefront of this fight.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the right to be our truest selves, and we continue the fight for true equity for all.

That’s a wrap for PSAC North Regional Triennial Convention 2026. Thank you to delegates, guests, observers, speakers, performers, and all who made this weekend such a success. Congratulations to re-elected Regional Executive Vice-President Josée-Anne Spirito, newly elected Alternate REVP Kushalini Naidoo and all our region’s elected representatives and directors.

Another exciting day at our Regional Triennial Convention in Whitehorse, where members debated and passed more than a dozen priority resolutions. We heard inspiring remarks from our keynote speaker, Dr. Glynnis Lieb, and the candidates for REVP and Alternate answered questions during our election debate. Members have accomplished a lot together as we get ready for the final day of Convention.

We had an awesome first day of our Regional Triennial Convention in Whitehorse, with members from across the North uniting their voices to build a strong future for our union and our region. Delegates and community members joined together at Shipyards Park to demand action on Text-to-911 in the North. In the afternoon, attendees enjoyed inspiring remarks from Mountainview MLA Linda Moen, and a powerful performance from Rising Sun Singers. Tomorrow promises to be a full day as we begin to consider resolutions.

PSAC North members are holding a Text to 911 Rally to raise awareness about the barriers to accessing emergency services that Deaf, Deafened, Hard of Hearing, and Speech-Impaired (DHHSI) residents face and the critical need for Text to 911 services.

Without Text to 911 services, DHHSI residents across the North are at a heightened risk during emergencies, because emergency calls require them to speak to someone.

Text to 9-1-1 is the most direct and effective method for contacting emergency services. Expanding 911 services in the North will benefit everyone, including people contacting 911 in situations when talking on the phone isn’t safe, or phone signals are too weak for a call.

Access to emergency services can mean the difference between life and death. Join us at Friday’s rally to bring attention to the importance of Text to 911 services!

We deserve stronger rights and protections, but right now, our governments aren’t keeping up. We’re working together to change that, so we can keep working and supporting our communities, the places, and people we love.

ATTENTION HOUSING WORKERS IN KIVALLIQ REGION!

NEU MEMBERS WORKING WITH HOUSING ASSOCIATIONS IN THE KIVALLIQ:

Our labour relations advisors alongside President Jason Rochon and PSAC North Regional Executive Vice-President Josee-Anne Spirito will be in all seven communities for a town hall for our housing association members this week.

This is part of an exciting initiative we are hoping to pilot in partnership with the Nunavut Housing Corporation to make it easier for our members and union to engage in the collective bargaining process.

We will present more information to our housing association members at the town hall this Thursday, May 21 and 4 PM local time. The meeting will be taking place at the local housing association office in every community, unless confirmed otherwise by our LRAs on the ground.

We encourage all our housing association members in the Kivalliq to come out to this meeting.

As our LRAs are traveling, we'd like to request all our other members to reach out to our Executive Director Daniel Kinsella at [email protected] with any urgent union-related concerns you may have during this week. Otherwise, our LRAs will get back to you when they're in the office here in Iqaluit again next week.
