Over the past three years, Big BrothersBigSisters Oxford has seen an increase in the challenges facing local children and youth:
▪️ Bullying: 81% → 88%
▪️ Social isolation: 72% → 76%
▪️ Household mental illness: 72% → 76%
▪️ Child welfare involvement: 39% → 53%
▪️ Exposure to violence: 37% → 48%
▪️ Grief and loss: 52% → 60%

Behind every successful mentoring relationship is more than just a volunteer.

BBBS Oxford County staff carefully recruit, screen, train, match, and support mentors every step of the way to ensure each connection is safe, meaningful, and impactful.

Last year alone, the team completed 1,822 scheduled match support touchpoints with mentors, youth, and families.

Every volunteer. Every donation. Every hour of support helps create life-changing relationships for local children and youth.

Have you heard about our school-based mentoring programs?
They offer a shorter time commitment, while still having a positive, life-changing impact on the lives of children & youth in our community.

In-School Mentoring is a one-to-one mentoring program: mentors meet with their mentees at a local elementary school for one hour, once a week through the school year.

All Play/Go Girls/ Game On are group mentoring programs: mentors meet with their group at a local elementary school once a week for an hour over an 8-week period. The groups engage in fun, interactive pre-planned activities focusing on elements of positive self-esteem, communication skills, building relationships and social skills.

Today we are celebrating the men who have shaped our lives with love, guidance, and care.
We know that this day can mean many things to many people. Father figures can come in many forms: a caring uncle, grandfather, devoted coach, trusted teacher, or a mentor who stepped in to listen, support, and guide.

At BBBS Oxford, we believe in the power of mentorship. We honour the men - Big Brothers, volunteers, educators, neighbours - who show up and make a difference in a young person’s life, every single day.

Ava & Violet were matched earlier this month and will spend their summer together enjoying fun in the sun, ice cream, and we overheard some talk about painting pottery together!

They're a Summer Match through BBBS Oxford; an opportunity for Ava to mentor during her break from post-secondary school, while giving Violet an additional, consistent support and most importantly, a new friend to enjoy the summer months with.
