On March 31, we mark the International Transgender Day of Visibility — a day to celebrate trans people, their contributions, and to stand against the discrimination they continue to face.

Trans workers are vital to our communities and our movement. But with rising attacks on trans rights, solidarity matters more than ever. The fight for workplace justice must include everyone — there is no winning rights for some without winning them for all.

Today, we uplift trans voices, challenge hate, and recommit to action.

DYK that women in Manitoba have to work an average of 455 days to earn the same amount as men do in 365? It's time to close the pay gap!

Today is Equal Pay Day in Manitoba, a day that symbolizes how far into the next year the average woman must work in order to earn as much as the average man did in the previous calendar year.

According to data in Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey, women in Manitoba have to work an average of 455 days to earn as much as men do in 365 – that’s an extra three months that women have to work to catch up to men.

As a dollar amount, Manitoba women earn just 80 cents on average for every dollar earned by men.

Manitoba’s Equal Pay Day Coalition, which the MFL is a part of, is calling on government to do more to make pay equity a reality, including modernizing Manitoba’s pay equity legislation and making the minimum wage a living wage. Most minimum wage earners are women, and keeping it at poverty levels disproportionately impacts women and adds to Manitoba’s high child poverty rates.

We joined once again at a rally along with the many unions of Manitoba to show our support for these workers who are still on strike.

These workers deserve a fair deal!

We’re thrilled to share with you that the MFL Women’s Committee’s campaign for free menstrual products at work has achieved success. The Kinew Government just announced that they are changing the Workplace Safety & Health Act to require employers to provide free menstrual products in workplace washrooms, just like employers are already required to do with other necessary washroom supplies, like toilet paper.

This is an important win for gender equity at work, and for workplace health and safety.

Thank you to all the unions and activists who participated in our postcard campaign and helped raise awareness of the need to make this change. Manitoba is the first province requiring free menstrual products at work, and we hope the rest of the country follows our lead!
