Today is International St. John Day. We recognize the volunteers who show up for their communities when it matters most.

Every day, across Canada, St. John Ambulance volunteers provide care at events, respond to emergencies, and offer comfort with programs like our therapy dog teams. Behind that support is ongoing training, equipment, and resources that help them stay ready to respond.

If you’re able, consider donating to help our volunteers continue this work. Your support helps ensure they can be there when it counts.

☀️Summer brings more time outdoors, but also a higher risk of preventable injuries and heat-related illness. A few simple habits can help keep you safer all season long.

Stay hydrated throughout the day, even before you feel thirsty.
Take breaks in shaded or cool areas when temperatures rise.
Avoid prolonged exposure during peak heat.
Be mindful around water, whether you’re swimming, boating, or supervising others; conditions can change quickly.
Don’t overlook the basics: sunscreen, bug protection, and a well-stocked first-aid kit can go a long way toward preventing small issues from becoming bigger problems.

A little preparation helps you enjoy summer with fewer risks and more confidence.

Volunteering is about showing up for others when it matters most.

For some, it’s about giving back to their community. For others, it’s about using their skills to bring comfort, confidence, and care in difficult moments. No matter the language or the reason, the message is the same: Small actions can make a real difference.

If you’re interested in becoming part of something bigger than yourself, learn how you can volunteer with St. John Ambulance.
