When we help families search for their beloved missing dogs, we often hear the same questions:
Why aren’t drones being used? Why aren’t there search teams searching in the bush? Why don’t you bring out the ATVs? Why aren’t you doing this, or trying that?
The reality is that recovering a lost dog is a process, and it isn’t always as straightforward as people might think. What makes sense in one situation may actually be counterproductive or even compromise the search in another.
Kat Albrecht has put together a fantastic article that I believe is incredibly resourceful and helpful. It offers valuable insight into the process of recovering a lost dog and helps explain why certain strategies are used, why others may not be appropriate, and what goes into making these decisions.
I encourage everyone, whether you’ve been involved in a lost-dog search, are currently helping a family, or simply want to better understand what goes on behind the scenes, to take a few minutes to read it.
When a lost dog has been sighted in an area of the woods, we strongly advise people to STAY OUT of the WOODS for various reasons.
