🚨Update 10am.
I just stopped in to check on our firefighters and the family affected by last night’s barn fire. It is a very busy place this morning.
There has been a steady stream of cattle trailers coming and going from the farm. Thanks to the incredible support of our agricultural community, all of the milking cattle have been safely moved to local farms and have already been milked this morning.
Fortunately, the combination of our firefighters’ outstanding work and a favourable west wind helped protect the farmhouse and surrounding buildings. The house appears to be untouched. While the attached barns sustained significant damage, crews were able to save them and prevent the fire from spreading further.
Crews from Hydro One were on site overnight and have already restored power to the farm house.
There were no injuries reported, which is something we are all very grateful for. That said, many of those involved have been operating on little to no sleep as they continue to work through this difficult situation.
Thank you to the members of Uxbridge Fire, Brock Fire, Scugog Fire, Hydro One, DRPS, and the many farmers and community members who stepped up to help. Once again, our thoughts and prayers remain with the family as they begin the difficult process of recovery.

Uxbridge Fire remains on scene at a very large barn fire north of town on 6th Concession.
They are being supported by tanker crews from Brock and Scugog Fire Departments, along with a Brock Fire crew stationed at our Fire Hall to ensure coverage for any additional emergency calls in Uxbridge. Thank you to the teams from Brock and Scugog for their assistance and partnership throughout this response. Thank you as well to Durham Regional Police for assisting with traffic control and helping keep the water tanker shuttle moving efficiently.
The fire has been significantly reduced in size. Crews will now be working with a large excavator to carefully separate sections of the structure, allowing firefighters to access and extinguish remaining pockets of fire and hot spots. Suppression efforts are expected to continue for the next several hours.
I have been in contact with members of our agricultural community who are supporting the family and helping with the animals. At this time, I am not aware of any injuries to family members or firefighters. I have not yet been briefed on any injuries to or loss of livestock.
Anyone involved in agriculture understands the incredible amount of work, dedication, and investment that goes into caring for animals, maintaining equipment, and building a successful farm operation. A loss like this is felt deeply by the entire family. On behalf of our community, we are thinking of them and praying for them tonight as they begin the difficult road ahead.
