Giant Steps Toronto/York Region is a therapy centre for elementary school-aged children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Giant Steps is a therapy centre that builds the skills and abilities of children with autism through individualized, evidence-based therapies and life skills programming. At Giant Steps, we are passionate about improving the lives of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families. We believe that a comprehensive, data-driven approach of evidence-based therapies and life skill programmin

g best meets the complex learning needs of children with ASD. At our centre, children participate in individualized therapy and skill development programs based on detailed therapy plans and frequent clinical reviews. Through a wide array of best practices, our therapists deliver 3 core therapy programs – speech, behaviour and occupational therapies, and address play/social and daily living skill development in each child’s programming. Children participate in a robust daily curriculum where, on a 2:1 staff to child ratio, our therapy assistants work directly with children, applying and practising therapeutic and skill development strategies throughout the day. Speech, behaviour and/or OT services are also available to families as individual therapies. Families are important partners in all aspects of their child's program, working with our team to establish and modify therapy plans and foster the generalization of therapeutic strategies to all settings. Giant Steps' therapy programs are 100% funded by our donors, our fundraising events and activities, and by families. Photos of children who are or have been in the Giant Steps Toronto program or testimonials from program participants, or their families that are posted on our website or social media sites, have been obtained and used with the permission of their families. Our occupational therapists use many strategies to engage our kids. Here's a peak at just a few: climbing, bubbles, playing catch, walking backwards on the treadmill, and then...... nice focus for table top and fine motor work.

Today, we send a SHOUT-OUT to Unity for Autism. Thanks to their outstanding support, our Senior Therapy Assistant Michelle is making a difference for our kids again this year.
At Giant Steps, our Therapy Assistants implement the goals established by our therapists for each child, reinforcing new skills and fostering their generalization to different situations and activities. With her wealth of expertise and experience, Michelle is a trusted leader on our team. We love her warm and caring ways and count on her mentorship of other team members.
Unity for Autism’s grant this year ensures that Michelle continues to work with our kids and staff, and we are truly grateful!

Giant Steps' 2nd Annual Golf Tournament is Friday May 29th at Lebovic Golf Club in Aurora.
