Founded in 1826, First Baptist Church has the distinction of being both the very first Baptist church and the oldest Black institution in the city of Toronto. Eight years before the abolition of slavery in the British Empire, 12 slaves from the Southern U.S made their way via the Underground Railroad to become the first members of First Baptist Church. Today, we invite you to come into Christ’s presence with thanksgiving in your heart. We will gather in Holy Communion and give Him praise. We’ll also welcome Dea. Adewole Adigun to provide us with a continuation message of “Love”; God’s love to us, and our love to others. We’ll be reminded that genuine love is more than something we say—it is something others should be able to SEE. Christ did not merely tell us He loved us; we saw it in His life, and ultimately through the Cross. As we partake in Communion, may the reflection of HIS love move from the emblems in our hands to our hearts.

“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

Welcome to our worship service or praise unto Christ our Lord. As we are surrounded by His love, we’ll reengage with the theme of Love. Jesus connects our love for God with our love for others. We’ve learned that the first commandment looks upward—to love God, while the second looks outward—to love your neighbour. We cannot claim to be devoted upward while refusing to demonstrate love outward. Like the Good Samaritan, we are not just to see our neighbours, but to meet them at their Crossroad.

“… And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:39-40)

We invite you to our service of praise and Communion fellowship. We’ll reflect on Christ’s sacrifice and His challenge to us, to embrace our own sacrifice of love. We’ll reengage with our “Love” theme and consider how we are called to love others. Is it possible to love God and not love others? The true measure of loving God is revealed in how we love neighbours. We are called to make the invisible love of God visible.

Welcome into our Sanctuary of Praise - the heart of Worship. We invite you to open your heart of praise unto Christ our Lord. Today we’ll embark on the theme of “Love” as we learn to love God first and foremost. We’ll be reminded that God is not looking for a divided devotion of love. He does not simply desire our Sunday worship, our occasional prayers, or our words of praise—He desires the whole you. Are you available?
