Just weeks after the one year anniversary of Awdah Hathaleen’s murder, the residents of Umm Al Khair learned their entire community is at risk of imminent ethnic cleansing and expulsion.

In a sudden and highly alarming move, Israeli authorities have rapidly changed the maps and land classifications concerning Umm al-Khair, reclassifying over 90% of the land previously recognized as privately owned by Palestinians, now as “disputed land.” The consequences of this sudden reclassification are already reverberating throughout the village. Every home, every family, and every piece of land in Umm al-Khair now faces an existential threat from state-supported settler attacks inside their village and around their homes — all under the pretext of “disputed land.”

The village of Umm Al Khair has suffered greatly in the last year, with caravans from the neighboring settlement of Carmel usurping a large portion of the village, and directly next to Palestinian homes. They have continued to attempt to overtake more land, and recently took over a Palestinian family’s backyard. This change in land classification opens up the door for further brutal and violent acts of displacement in the village.

The residents of Umm Al Khair are calling on people of conscience from around the globe to stand with them and contact their government representatives, before it is too late.

The Canadian Voice of Women for Peace mourns the passing of our long-time member Dr. Joan Russow. Joan was a great activist, academic, journalist and politician who advocated for peace, climate action, environmental protection and social justice in Victoria, BC. In 2014, she joined other VOW members to attend the "Delegitimize War" Conference in The Hague with scholars, lawyers and activists from around the world. Joan travelled extensively for her advocacy and activism to the United Nations and left a big mark on the world. She will be remembered and missed.

Join us for an important webinar to learn the crucial history behind the war in Ukraine. From 2015-2022, Benoît Paré served as a monitor with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) along the contact line in Ukraine. In 2025, he self-published an important 600-page book “What I saw in Ukraine: Diary of an International Monitor” that detailed his on-the-ground observations of the conflict in the country. Paré is a former French Army reserve officer and civilian analyst at the French Ministry of Defence. He was deployed 8 times on NATO and United Nations operations. He spent many years in some of the main international crisis zones including the former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Pakistan. The book is available in English and French. He recently published a new book “Ukraine: The Great Manipulation” about war propaganda. Don’t miss this important interview.
