What an incredible evening spent with The Gatehouse, an organization dedicated to supporting adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

Jack Wiley, Fundraising Coordinator, and Jordan Anderson, Executive Director of Alpha House Recovery Community, were honoured to attend tonight's beautiful event.

Thank you to the entire Gatehouse team for such a wonderful evening, for the extraordinary and lifesaving work you do, and for your ongoing partnership in helping individuals find healing, hope, and recovery.

The work you do changes lives, and we are truly grateful to stand alongside an organization that shares our commitment to helping people heal and rebuild their lives.

Together, we are reminded that healing is possible, hope is real, and recovery changes lives.

In our What Keeps You Going? series, members of the Alpha House community share some of the things that give them motivation, connection and purpose.

There isn't one answer.

And there isn't one version of recovery.

Sometimes hearing what keeps someone else going can remind us of the things that keep us moving forward too.

This is what a miracle looks like.

The ringing of a bell.

To some, it may seem like a small moment. But at Alpha House, we know what it took to get here.

Every day of abstinence. Every difficult conversation. Every uncomfortable truth. Every time he chose recovery when it would have been easier to give up.

Today, he rang the bell and graduated from Alpha House.

We get to witness miracles like this. Not because recovery is easy, but because people are capable of extraordinary change when they are given an opportunity, surrounded by community, and willing to do the work.

People recover. Families heal. Lives change.

Congratulations on your graduation. Keep carrying the miracle forward.

A miracle.

Today, another man rang the bell at Alpha House.

That bell represents so much more than graduation. It represents courage, hard work, accountability, hope, and a life that is being rebuilt.

There was a time when recovery may have seemed impossible. Today, he stands as proof that people can and do recover.

This is why we do what we do.

Never underestimate what someone is capable of when they are given the opportunity to recover.

Congratulations on your graduation. Keep going. The best is still ahead.

Finishing treatment can be an important milestone. But recovery doesn't suddenly become easy when a program ends.
There can still be housing to find. Relationships to rebuild. Mental health to take care of. Employment or education to return to. New routines to establish. And an entirely different life to learn how to navigate.

That's why the work at Alpha House extends beyond addiction treatment.

We support the whole person, and the life they're working to build.

What is Alpha House?

It’s more than a place to complete a treatment program.

Since 1972, Alpha House has supported people as they work toward building sustainable lives in recovery.

That can include addiction counselling, mental health support, psychotherapy, case management, peer support, housing support, employment and education, life skills, recovery planning and continued connection through our alumni community.

Because recovery isn't just about what someone is leaving behind.

It's also about what they're building next.

Nominations are now open for the Michael Machan Memorial Award through the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

This award recognizes a Registered Psychotherapist who has made a meaningful contribution to the development of others, their own professional growth, or service to the psychotherapy profession in Ontario.

If you know an RP whose contributions deserve recognition, please consider submitting a nomination.

Thank you to Laura Dean, mayoral candidate for the City of Toronto, for taking the time to visit Alpha House Recovery Community this week.

We appreciated the opportunity to discuss recovery-focused treatment programs, the importance of ensuring people have access to a range of treatment options, and the role that abstinence-based recovery services play within Toronto’s broader continuum of care.

We are always grateful for opportunities to share the work happening at Alpha House and to discuss how we can continue strengthening treatment, recovery, housing, and long-term supports for people across our city.
