What’s been accomplished in 11 years? On this day of Truth and Reconciliation (T&R) let’s look at how many of the official Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action have been completed and where we’re headed.

It’s difficult to reckon with the fact that many commitments that have been achieved are symbolic, such as apologies or commemorations. Deeper, systemic changes are still awaiting.

“I want Indigenous children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren to know how brave their ancestors were as little children – how much they lived through and their parents lived through by way of measurable injuries but also by way of devastation of spirit. Yet, they came forward with courage and determination and created an opportunity for their voices to be heard, to be forced on the rest of the country and the world. I want them to know that with deep pride and lasting inspiration,” Commissioner Marie Wilson.

Reconciliation is not meant to be symbolic; it requires real change. The work is far more done. 🧡✊

Hey Iqaluit🥰 DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO October 1st 👀

The Northern Policy School is a new program within The Centre for Indigenous Policy and Research (CIPR) at Indigenous Youth Roots (IYR). Created in collaboration with Northern Indigenous youth, the program is designed to build skills, connections, and confidence in policy, leadership and community change.

Rooted in community and Northern realities, this week-long, in-person program invites Indigenous youth to explore how policy can support self-determination, advocacy, and community wellness.

The program is open to Indigenous youth (18-29) located in Iqaluit, who are interested in learning more about policy, advocacy, and meaningful change. We encourage any interested youth to apply; no prior experience is required to take this program. Just bring your curiosity, commitment, and willingness to learn! Don’t forget, applications are only open until October 1 2026.

This role provides operational leadership for IYR’s Communications team, overseeing day-to-day work, long-term projects, and cross-departmental collaboration. This role will be responsible for supporting the development of practices, procedures, and standards related to external engagements of Indigenous Youth, Elders, community members, partners, funders, and various other folks in an assortment of active and passive communications channels.

IYR is a living wage employer and provides 3 weeks vacation, 3 weeks personal time off, statutory holidays vacation (in addition to a 2-week winter closure), health benefits after a three-month probationary period, flexible workweek options, and a GRRSP employer contribution of 5% of salary.

Throwback to 🇨🇭. We want to thank Young Diplomats of Canada and the youth delegates who joined us in Geneva!  Our time there connected us with countless others across the world who are working to protect the rights of Indigenous communities, connections we bring home to bolster our advocacy work with and for the communities we engage with!
