🍂🍁 Fall Fun at Family Drop-In! 🥧🦃

Over the last two weeks, our little ones and their families have been busy celebrating the season with some wonderful autumn-themed activities!

Crafting Cute Turkeys: The children got creative making adorable little turkeys to help us celebrate Thanksgiving.

Apple Pie Sensory Play: We pretended to bake our very own apple pies using apple pie-scented playdough—it smelled just like autumn in the room!

Fall Sensory Bin: Everyone had a blast exploring, digging, and playing in our cozy fall-themed sensory bin. We even through the leaves up into the air and watched the leaves slowly fall down. There was lots of giggles and laughter.

🧡 Every Child Matters 🧡

Today, in honor of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, families in our Drop-In Program gathered to listen, reflect, and learn together as a community.

This important day is a time for us to acknowledge the painful history and lasting impacts of residential schools in Canada, honor the survivors and their families, and reaffirm our ongoing commitment to Reconciliation through early learning and community support.

Here is how our children and caregivers spent this meaningful time together:

🍞 Baking Bannock: We enjoyed making Bannock, a traditional Indigenous bread with blueberries. It was wonderful trying a new food while coming together to build connection and warm conversation.

📖 Storytime & Reflection: We read "With Our Orange Hearts" by Phyllis Webstad, founder of the Orange Shirt Society. The story helped open gentle, age-appropriate conversations about love, empathy, and healing.

🎨 Expressing Our Feelings: Afterwards, children and families crafted their own orange hearts to express the emotions, thoughts, and reflections inspired by the book.

✋ Our Unity Tree: Together, we created a Truth and Reconciliation Tree using handprints from every parent, caregiver, and child—symbolizing our shared strength, unity, and promise to walk this path of learning together.

Thank you to all the families who shared their hearts, hands, and time with us today. Every step we take together matters. 🧡✨

🌈✨June was a month full of learning, creativity, and celebration at our Family drop-in Program!

This month, we had so much fun exploring and celebrating a variety of important cultures, traditions, and special occassions together.

For Pride, our little artists created beautiful rainbow crafts and enjoyed an exciting dance party complete with rainbow guitars, microphones, and lots of singing fun. We also read the book "Pink is for Boys" written by Rob Pearlman.

We celebrated Portugal Day by creating the traditional Portuguese Rooster "Galo de Barcelos", with each child designing their own unique version.

For Italian Heritage, participants explored history and art by creating beautiful roman mosaic masterpieces.

To recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day, we learned about the significance of Haudenosaunee flag and the symbolism of sweetgrass. the children created their own Haudenosaunee flag and the caregivers braided sweetgrass while learning about the importance of these traditions.

One of the biggest highlights of the month was celebrating our amazing preschool graduates! 🧑‍🎓Congratulations to all of our little learners who will be starting kindergarten this September. we are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished and can't wait to see you continue to learn, grow, and shine on your next adventure!
