Greenhouse construction is officially underway!

We teamed up with Right Arm Builds (ON) to build a 26’ Geodesic Dome, supplied by our partners Arctic Acres, in Weagamow First Nation (North Caribou Lake).

📍 Weagamow is an Oji-Cree community of approximately 920 residents, located 320 km north of Sioux Lookout, Ontario. While it is a remote community, it is connected to the southern highway system via the Wa-Pik-Che-Wanoog Bridge and the Northern Ontario Resource Trail. Because of the vast shipping distances across both air and road networks, supplying fresh produce to the area presents significant logistical challenges.

Project Goal: This 26' Arctic Acres Geodesic Dome is engineered to withstand Canadian northern winters - up to 8' of snowload, fierce northern windspeeds in the depths of winter, while creating a controlled indoor environment that successfully extends the local growing season.

We are working alongside Weagamow First Nation to establish a reliable way to grow fresh fruits and vegetables locally.

This greenhouse is built to integrate with the community's existing food systems, making fresh produce easily accessible right at home.

𝗪𝗘 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗛𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚!
Green Iglu seeks an enthusiastic, knowledgeable 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 to teach foundational gardening skills in remote communities across Canada.

In this role, you will deliver an established, easy-to-follow curriculum designed to empower local residents to grow their own fruits and vegetables. You will be paired with a local partner to help facilitate workshops, bridge local knowledge, and support participants.

You will spend 5 days onsite in the community delivering training, with all travel, accommodations, and daily meal per diems fully provided.

𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: Community Gardening Educator
𝘓𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: Various remote communities across Canada (travel required)
𝘛𝘦𝘳𝘮: August or September 2026, maximum 9 days, 60 hours (initial contract); with potential for extension into Spring 2027
𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘺: Competitive, based on experience

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀
· Use our ready-to-go curriculum to teach gardening in a way that is fun and easy for everyone to understand.
· Create an inclusive, welcoming environment that encourages hands-on learning for participants of all ages.
· Provide practical guidance on planting, soil care, and harvesting to help communities establish long-term food skills.
· Work side-by-side with a designated community partner to coordinate logistics and build local capacity.

· Practical knowledge of horticulture and vegetable production.
· Strong communication skills with an ability to connect with, teach, and inspire others.

· Comfortable traveling to and working in remote regions.
