Reminiscing on a summer of canoe tripping 😍

While the season is over, there is a ton of outdoor programming for youth ahead! We are excited to offer numerous opportunities for youth to get outside this fall and winter, including hikes and even fall paddles!

Our programming team is also hard at work evaluating the Summer 2026 programs in order to make the 2027 summer season even more fun and transformative. Stay tuned to learn more, to hear from our participants, and register for our upcoming programs 🍂🥾🌳

Today, September 30, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We honour residential school Survivors, the children who never returned home, and the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of the residential school system.

Project Canoe’s programs take place across the lands and waters of the Omàmiwininìwak (Algonquin Anishinaabeg) and in Tkaronto, the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples.

As an organization that brings young people into the outdoors, we have a responsibility to understand the histories of the places where we learn and explore. We are grateful for the relationships we have built with Indigenous youth organizations and for the opportunity to learn alongside the Indigenous communities and young people we work with.

Truth and reconciliation is an ongoing responsibility. Today, we reflect, listen, and continue learning about the histories, cultures, experiences, and perspectives of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

Adventure has a way of bringing people together. 🛶✌️

Out on the water, youth build friendships, support one another, and discover the strength that comes from navigating new experiences and challenges as a team.

As one 2026 youth canoe trip participant shared, “We are all in this together.”

Yesterday marked National Tree Day in Canada. 🌲

We would like to take a chance to celebrate the trees that give every Project Canoe outdoor program their backdrop, and give us the air we need to breathe.

There’s something special about paddling through a forest, surrounded by the trees that make time outdoors feel so much more meaningful.

Here’s to appreciating, protecting, and getting out there to experience the places that give us so much. 💚

Maria and Corey, owners of Haliburton Paddle Shop got in front of the camera to explain why they partnered with Project Canoe for the “Paddle For A Cause” campaign! 📸🛶

Until September 30th, 10% of proceeds from every purchase of paddles and accessories from Haliburton Paddle Shop will directly support the youth and the work we do at Project Canoe!

There is less than ONE WEEK left to get your orders in. Order a handcrafted paddle or accessory from an incredible family business and help youth overcome barriers to the outdoors. 🚣‍♂️🌳

You heard it here first: canoe tripping is a must-try experience.

For 50 years, Project Canoe has introduced youth facing barriers to the magic of canoe tripping. It's incredible to see youth fall in love with paddling through Algonquin Park every summer.
