It was an honour to attend the 33rd Canadian Disability Hall of Fame luncheon at the Fairmont Royal York today. Congratulations to inductees Dr. David Legg, Mac Marcoux, and Brad McCannell.

Canadian Hearing Services was proud to provide ASL interpretation and CART services so every guest could take part. Thank you to Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons for 33 years of celebrating Canadians who open doors for others.

Wellness starts with caring for both your mind and body. It is important to have access to wellbeing tools that are accessible for you.

Join us on Thursday, October 15 for our webinar, Mindfulness and Wellness, to explore mindfulness practices that have been adapted for neurodiversity through research at the CAMH Azrieli Adult Neurodevelopmental Centre with MSW Sue Hutton. We will have hands on experience practicing some adapted examples of mindfulness techniques, and self-care strategies that are designed to help people feel more grounded, focused, and empowered in everyday life.​

October is Fire Safety Month, a good time to make sure everyone in your home can receive critical smoke and carbon monoxide alerts. ​

Accessible alerting technology provides warnings through flashing lights, vibration, and wireless notifications. Bed shakers can wake you when a visual alert can't, and wearable receivers keep you connected to alerts anywhere in your home.​

We're excited to launch Mental Health First Aid for the Deaf Community, developed in partnership with the Mental Health Commission of Canada Commission de la santé mentale du Canada (MHCC), through Opening Minds - Changer les mentalités, an initiative of MHCC.​

Canadian Hearing Services is the first organization in Canada to offer Mental Health First Aid training designed specifically for Deaf communities and the first to deliver the program in ASL.​

The program combines Opening Minds’ evidence-based Mental Health First Aid with Deaf culture, Deaf lived experience, accessibility considerations, and Deaf-specific mental health knowledge to help participants support someone experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge until professional help is available.​

Available in both ASL and English, this training is an important step toward increasing accessible mental health support for Deaf communities across Canada.​
