Meet Claudia Bogdanowicz, a recipient of the 2025–2026 Canadian Hearing Services National Scholarship Program.

Claudia shares with us her passion for nursing, and how her early experience with hearing loss has shaped her perspective growing up. Graduating from Laurentian University's nursing program, Claudia hopes to break the stereotype of what it's look like to have hearing loss within a healthcare setting.

Did you know high-frequency sounds are often the first to become harder to hear as we age?

CHS Director, Audiology Professional Practice, Rex Banks, explains how hearing loss can gradually show up over time.

“Vowels are low frequency and consonants are high frequency,” he said. “Vowels let us know someone is talking to us, but consonants help clarify what is being said."

When you start to feel like you can hear but everyone else is muttering and you could not understand, that is because you are hearing this low frequency information but missing the high frequency.”
