📢 Across Canada, animal advocates are standing together & turning up the pressure on Sobeys CEO Pierre St-Laurent.

In 2016, Sobeys committed to selling 100% cage-free eggs by 2025.

Today, over 80% of Sobeys eggs come from caged hens 🐔💔

While Sobeys talks about “choice” for low-income customers, hens in its supply chain are given no choice at all. They’re forced to live in high-density cages, breathing toxic fumes from their own waste, surrounded by injured & dead cagemates.

Meanwhile, Sobeys executives pocket millions of dollars every year.

It’s time for Pierre St-Laurent to listen, take responsibility, & get hens out of cages now.

Turkeys have nothing to be thankful for on Thanksgiving 💔

Over 99% of turkeys are raised on factory farms, confined to overcrowded, filthy barns, & slaughtered when they’re just a few months old.

Turkeys are sentient individuals who feel & suffer. They deserve to be protected from the heartbreaking cruelty they endure for their meat.

Choose compassion by leaving turkeys & other animal products off of your plate 🦃🙏

BREAKING: A 6th animal has died after being transferred from Marineland to aquariums abroad, bringing the death toll to 5 belugas & 1 dolphin 💔

Caspian, a 27-year-old female beluga, has died at Shedd Aquarium in Chicago after struggling with health concerns since arriving from Marineland.

Caspian was captured from the wild in Russian waters in 2003 when she was very young. She spent about 23 years in captivity before her death.

Over the summer, Marineland shipped all 30 of its surviving belugas & 4 dolphins to aquariums in the US & Spain. The Canadian government approved the transfers after Marineland threatened to kill the animals.

Caspian's death follows Peekachu, Rain, & Osiris, who also died after being transferred to Shedd, as well as Jelly Bean & Echo, who died at Oceanogràfic València in Spain.

It's illegal to breed whales & dolphins in Canada, yet the government reportedly approved these exports without restrictions on breeding. These animals should have been the last generation to suffer in tanks.

Ontario is proposing a historic, province-wide ban on horse slaughter & the handling of horse meat in provincially-licensed slaughterhouses 🐴

Public concern for horse welfare was cited by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Agribusiness as the driving force behind this proposal—proving that together, our voices are making a difference!

Systemic cruelty within this industry has gone on for far too long, & we applaud Ontario for taking a stand. By going a step further & banning the sale & transport of horses for slaughter, Ontario could protect even more vulnerable horses from suffering.

BREAKING: A Toronto lab that experiments on beagles is suing Ontario to overturn new laws restricting most invasive medical cat & dog experiments.

The new laws came after Animal Justice helped expose a cruel secret dog lab at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London, Ontario.

Last year Last Chance for Animals (LCA) released undercover footage from Nucro-Technics showing beagles being restrained, struggling, & crying during procedures, vomiting & collapsing after exposure to test substances, & showing signs of psychological distress before being killed.

Animal Justice will seek to intervene in the case to help defend these hard-won protections for cats & dogs!

Billions of aquatic animals are killed in Canada every year, yet they have shockingly few legal protections 💔🐟

Fishes can legally be left to asphyxiate, be gutted alive, or crushed under the weight of other fishes—all while fully conscious. They feel pain, & the law should protect them from cruelty!

Sheep farming in Canada is rife with cruelty ⚠️

It's LEGAL to kill lambs by striking them with a hammer or slamming them against a hard surface. Tail docking, castration, ear notching, & other mutilations without appropriate pain medication are permitted.

Shockingly, in Canada, the industry writes its own rules & prevents any real protections for farmed animals.

Sheep farming in Canada is rife with cruelty. This industry is self-regulating, allowing rampant abuse to go unchecked.
