Across Canada, many Anglican priests travel between two or more churches on a Sunday morning serving a “multi-point charge.” Yesterday, our Youth Engagement Coordinator Sarah Bird joined her father, Bishop Michael Bird, as he serves as Incumbent for a two-point charge in the Anglican Diocese of Ontario. The first service was at 9 a.m. at Holy Trinity Maynooth, followed by a drive to the second service at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Bancroft.

Both churches marked Harvest Sunday as Alongside Hope Sunday, with our resources and new prayer cards placed in the pews. Kathy Partridge, the Alongside Hope Parish Representative, shared how honoured the parish was to welcome a representative from Alongside Hope in person on this special Sunday. She also shared plans for an upcoming “Hunger Lunch” fundraiser in support of Alongside Hope.

Harvest Sunday was a reminder to stop, pause, turn back, and give thanks to God for the many blessings of this season. It was also an opportunity to reflect on how deeply connected we are to our partners around the world, including communities in Burundi, East Africa, who are celebrating and giving thanks for their own harvest. Across distance and different contexts, we are connected through the land, the food it provides, and our shared gratitude for God’s abundance.
