"I'm just trying to survive" — says Jean-Marc Ladouceur, member of ACORN's Vanier chapter who recently received an N4 eviction notice.

“Right now, I don’t have a roommate and so I’m covering mine plus his, which leaves me zero in the bank account,” he said.

Jean-Marc is a veteran, stroke survivor and is on ODSP now trying to cover $1500/month in rent.

Both he and ACORN leader Sharon Katz spoke to CTV about ACORN's position on new eviction changes brought in by 🚫📜. In short, the bill will speed up evictions and accelerate .

That's why Ontario ACORN is calling for a full repeal of the bill and for the Province to introduce an Ontario-wide rent grant program 💰🏘️ to actually support tenants who suddenly fall behind on rent.

Remember that all of Carney's cabinet is homeowners. 38% are landlords. We can't expect them to represent our interests - tenants MUST be heard!!

💪 Sudbury ACORN members are taking action!

Last weekend, our Sudbury members hit the streets to build community power. They doorknocked, held a table event, and met with MPP Jamie West NDP to raise the issues that matter to low- and moderate-income people in Sudbury.

Huge shoutout to Carrie-Lynn Cusson & Mel Leplante for repp'ing ACORN in Sudbury, and Stacey Semple, Chair of the Downtown Toronto Chapter, for making the trip to Sudbury and spending the weekend organizing alongside our Sudbury members! ✊

Darcy could be out on the streets in September because of a loophole in the city's renoviction bylaw.🚫⚠️

The LTB ignored evidence that Darcy's landlord Scott Wilson has no intention of demolishing his unit to merge with his neighbour's - a unit that was emptied, renovated and re-rented at double the price. 😡

Tenants marched on the Ministry of Energy today demanding 'NO FEES FOR A/C'! ❄️

During a record hot summer ☀️🔥, Ford's Bill 97 changes around air conditioning legalized price-gouging tenants for having A/C if utilities are covered in their rent.

ACORN is demanding:

🧊 Fund a province-wide program to provide free, energy-efficient air conditioners to low- and moderate-income renters.
🚫 Ban landlords from charging extra fees for air conditioning to tenants who have utilities included in their rent.
⚡ Immediately expand the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP) to fully cover any extra AC surcharges forced onto tenants.

🚨 Doug Ford's new legislation is allowing landlords to charge tenants arbitrary fees for using air conditioning if their utilities are included in their rent.

While cities are stepping up to expand access to cooling for renters, Ford has legalized price-gouging tenants trying to survive the summer. ☀️🌡️

The Ontario government already subsidizes utility costs ⚡ for tenants who pay for utilities separately through the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP). ACORN is demanding that OESP be expanded to cover ALL tenants' AC fees. ❄️
