Thanks to all the ACORN leaders and the support of Mayor Olivia Chow , we are finally seeing action. Notorious 500 Dawes landlord Carolyn Krebs is doing time for putting tenants in serious danger.

Let this be a warning to all landlords that put their tenants' health and safety at risk ✊🏾.

Toronto ACORN leader Stacey Semple out representing Ontario ACORN members at Queen's Park today calling on FordNation to freeze rents! Happy to join the Ontario NDP press conference alongside our friends at the Toronto Tenant Union as MPPs Jessica Bell Kristyn Wong-Tam move a motion for a rent freeze for the next 2 years.

This short term measure would affect 1.7 MILLION renters. In the long term we need rent control on ALL buildings, including vacant units, and a ban on AGIs ✊️

Doug Ford has already pushed through Bill 60: The Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act, but the fight isn't over. The Province is now seeking public comment on the regulations that will decide just how fast they can kick you out of your home. 🚨

Ontario ACORN - the Ontario Wide Tenants Union - is demanding the Province:

🚫 Repeal Bill 60! We're in a housing crisis. We don't need a bill that fast-tracks evictions and strips away tenants' protections at the LTB.
🏠 Replace this disastrous bill with a provincial rent grant program.

Send a message to the Premier, Housing Minister, and your MPP NOW! 📧 This one simple action can make a difference.

When Doug Ford tried to end rent control, Ontario ACORN's local tenant unions in Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, London, Peel, Kitchener-Waterloo and elsewhere across the province sent 23,000+ emails in 72 hours, forcing the government to withdraw their plans. 💪

With the support from our tenant union members, allies and supporters we can do it again! 🔥

Today, Toronto City Council voted to strengthen the RentSafeTO program by:

• Introducing a colour-coded signage system for evaluating Toronto apartment buildings and a plan for rolling them out across the city this summer.
• Reweighing evaluation scores to penalize landlords for more serious infractions, like broken elevators.
• Creating a policy framework for remedial action so the City can fix up deteriorating buildings and bill the landlords for the work.

This is alongside the investments that have been made over the last couple years in expanding the size of the team of RentSafeTO bylaw enforcement officers.

Make no mistake, these changes *will* help Toronto tenants. We’ve been calling for these measures for years.

But there’s more to fight for, like universal work orders and in-unit inspections. We were happy to see ’s motion to investigate expanding the RentSafeTO program to more properties, ensure bylaw officers are engaging tenants door-to-door, and find more ways to provide RentSafeTO information directly to tenants. We’ll be back at City Hall soon to push for these changes and more, but for now, we celebrate!

What is Doug Ford hiding? 🕵️‍♀️📱

The Conservatives have introduced in their budget bill changes that would gut our Freedom of Information (FOI) laws ✂️📜.

If this passes, the Premier, his Cabinet ministers, and their staff will be legally allowed to hide their records, emails, and phone logs from the public ⚠️. This is a direct attack on our democracy and a desperate attempt to cover up scandal after scandal, and to kill ongoing investigations by journalists and watchdogs.

Take action✊! Send the Premier and your MPP a message with ACORN's new online action: https://acorncanada.org/take_action/stop-fords-secrecy-bill-stand-up-for-democracy/

"I think it was the fact that Ontarians were flooding his cell phone and his MPP offices with complaints" - we'd have to agree with Marit Stiles on this one.

Now let's put that money back into and other public services!

There's power in numbers so get involved with ACORN and labour unions like Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) to keep putting Ford in his place! 💪

A month after FordNation cuts the housing budget by $347 million he buys a challenger jet... 😑🤦🏽‍♀️

If Ontario has money for private jets, we've got money to keep people off the streets and in their homes!

ACORN is fighting to prevent tenants struggling to pay rent from becoming homeless. ✊ Send Doug Ford a message in support of an Ontario Rent Grant Program (he can read it from the plane! ✈️).

After years of relentless organizing, ACORN and the City of New Westminster have made history—again! ✊🏙️

New Westminster has officially become the first city in Canada to pass a maximum heat bylaw, proving once again that when tenants organize, we WIN! 🏆📢

For too long, tenants have been left to swelter in dangerously hot apartments, told by landlords that they couldn’t even install their own A/C units (something that the City of New West also banned in 2025). But ACORN members know that extreme heat is a matter of life and death. 🌡️⚠️

New Westminster has a track record of boldly going where no council has gone before—starting with BC ACORN 's flagship Living Wage bylaw win in 2010 and the renoviction ban in 2019, both of which resulted in massive wins across the province for higher wages and expanded tenant protections. Now, by passing the first maximum heat bylaw in Canada, ACORN is proud to be a part of history once again! 📜✨

What’s Next? This is a massive win for climate justice and tenant rights, but we aren’t stopping here. No tenant should have to choose between paying rent and staying cool during a heatwave. 🧊🌍

So which Canadian city will be next? Members of Toronto ACORN Hamilton ACORN Ottawa ACORN London ACORN Peel ACORN Waterloo Region ACORN Alberta ACORN Nova Scotia ACORN New Brunswick ACORN are vying for it to be theirs. 🏁🏃‍♀️
