Yasmin and Jeevan Atwal have successfully fundraised $1,000 for the Canadian Music Therapy Fund, directly supporting music therapy programs for children with disabilities, youth experiencing mental health challenges, neurodiverse individuals, and seniors living with dementia. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to these remarkable students for their dedication and generosity in fundraising to support the Canadian Music Therapy Fund.

Their commitment to the healing power of music is inspiring and makes a meaningful difference in our community. We are incredibly honoured to receive this donation!

Thank you for helping us bring the gift of music to those who need it most! 🎶🙌 💛

Most people never see where CMTF’s work truly happens: in youth shelters, community agencies, long-term care homes, hospitals, and other community settings where music therapy can be life-changing. That frontline work has always been the heart of our mission.
To keep this impact strong and sustainable, CMTF is entering an important evolution. After years of financial challenges, we have made the difficult decision to close the Music Therapy Centre on Bloor Street at the end of the year. While this space has held 25 years of connection and healing, this transition does not signal the end of CMTF.
Instead, it allows us to focus even more deeply on the communities we serve across the country, reaching people where they are and investing in programs that change lives every day.
We are working closely with all on-site clients to ensure continuity of care and support through this transition.
CMTF remains fully active and committed.
If you’re able, a donation today helps ensure uninterrupted access to music therapy where it’s needed most.
Thank you for your continued trust, care, and belief in this work.

After exploring every possible option, we've made the difficult decision to close the Music Therapy Centre at the end of this year. While this marks the end of our physical home, it is NOT the end of the Canadian Music Therapy Fund, just the next evolution.

This pivot will allow us to focus our resources where our impact is strongest: delivering accessible music therapy to the people who need it most. To continue doing this work, we need your support.

Every time we ask, this remarkable community shows up with so much care. If you are able to make a donation, your gift will help support clients through this transition and ensure music therapy remains available to the communities who rely on it.

Thank you for your support and for being part of this community.

Donations can be made on our Canada Helps page here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/CMTF/

For almost 30 years, the Canadian Music Therapy Fund (CMTF) has made music therapy available to those who need it most, including: children and youth dealing with mental health challenges, those who are neurodiverse, residents of long-term care facilities, and countless more who find solace in music.

However, CMTF needs your assistance today. Micro Charities such as CMTF now operate in a different climate, and we are changing to better serve our community. Please consider giving today to ensure that every Canadian who needs it can continue to find healing through music.

“Songs are our connection to life. They connect us to the inner world; they bring us closer to others; they keep us company when we are alone. They articulate our beliefs and reaffirm our values. They arouse, they accompany, and they release. And as the years pass, our songs bear witness to our lives and give voice to our experiences. They rekindle the past, reflect the present, and project the future. Songs weave tales of our joys and sorrows; they express our dreams and disappointments, our fears and triumphs. They are our musical diaries, our life stories. They are the sounds of our development.”

One of the most impressive skills a music therapist has is their ability to play almost any song on command. Ask them, and they probably can! (At CMTF's December holiday party, our MTA's were able to play any carol we called out, including a roque "Defying Gravity" - all without sheet music or preparation). Check out some of the ways music therapists may use songs to support clients during their sessions.
