Back in 2012 NARA started working on an out-of-control colony of feral cats known as the ‘Tim Hortens’ or NIS colony. Back then there were kittens hanging out by the dumpsters of the drive-through and many, mostly orange, cats in the surrounding area. The entire colony was TNR’d; Trap, Neuter & Return (or rehome if possible, especially all the kittens). Some of the veterinary costs were covered with a grant from the BCSPCA. Over the years the colony reduced in size naturally, being fed by their caregiver. Eventually the caregiver had to step away and the 3 remaining senior feral cats, that had never been handled other than by the vet under heavy sedation, needed a safe place to live out their days. Up stepped an amazing foster family, who welcomed them all into their purpose made barn with large outdoor run. Ginger Fred passed away peacefully a few months later, but we just got this lovely photo update of Lizzy and Harlequin, loving their retirement. We don’t know how many cats and kittens were involved, but it would’ve been well over 100, probably nearer 200. So many volunteers and supporters but we fixed and or rehomed the lot.
If you have a ginger female cat and live around Terrace – she’s probably from the same gene pool.
