Phoenix Society is pleased to announce the opening of Phoenix Pathways in Chilliwack.

Phoenix Pathways provides a continuum of housing options, including a 42-bed long-stay shelter, 27 supportive housing units, and 22 enhanced care units for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Residents have access to 24/7 wraparound supports, including case management, culturally safe programming, meals, laundry facilities, and support to maintain housing stability.

This new development reflects a collaborative commitment to providing safe, stable housing and enhanced supports that help individuals build healthier, more connected futures.

This week Phoenix staff participated in the “Decolonizing Substance Use & Harm Reduction” virtual training led by Len Pierre Consulting. This important session explored the impacts of colonialism, racism, stigma, and prohibition policies on Indigenous health and social inequities, including the toxic drug crisis. Staff actively engaged in discussion, reflection, and learning around culturally safer language, person-first approaches, and Indigenous perspectives on harm reduction and healing.

The training highlighted the importance of compassion, inclusion, dignity, relationships, and “meeting people where they are at”. Recognizing that substance use and recovery journeys are deeply personal and shaped by lived experiences, trauma, and systemic barriers.

As part of Phoenix Society’s ongoing commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, culturally safe care, and the continued development of our Cultural Safety and Reconciliation Action Plan, opportunities like this help strengthen learning, reflection, and meaningful conversations across our organization.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental well-being is fundamental to a healthy life. At Phoenix Society, we recognize that everyone’s journey is unique, and that well-being connection, and support look different for each individual.

Across our programs and services, we provide accessible, person-centered support for individuals facing barriers related to mental health, substance use, housing, education, and community connection. We meet people where they’re at and walk alongside them as they pursue the goals that matter most to them.

Through our continuum of care, service recipients may access individualized supports, clinical counselling, health care, peer support, housing, recreation, cultural connection, music therapy, education and employment supports, and opportunities to strengthen community inclusion and well-being.

Behind that care is a team committed to ongoing learning and evidence-informed practice. Phoenix staff participate in continuous training to help ensure individuals feel safe, respected, and supported throughout their journey.

May 21 is World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development

Phoenix Society believes there is strength in connection: To culture, community, land, and one another.

We are committed to creating culturally safe, inclusive spaces where people feel respected, supported, and empowered in their wellness journey. Through Indigenous cultural connection, community inclusion programming, and relationship-based care, we work to foster belonging and reduce barriers to support.

The Phoenix main campus benefits from the Healing Grounds, an Elder led land-based healing space that plays a vital role in supporting the wellness and recovery of Indigenous service recipients and the broader community. It offers public access to Sweat Lodge ceremonies, traditional healing practices, and community gatherings that support cultural reconnection and healing.

As part of our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, Phoenix Society is working with Len Pierre Consulting to develop an Indigenous Cultural Safety and Reconciliation Action Plan. This work is focused on building internal readiness, strengthening staff understanding, and aligning our practices to better support Indigenous communities.

Phoenix also continues to invest in staff learning through training in cultural safety, trauma-informed practice, and 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion to help ensure care is compassionate, respectful, and responsive to the diverse communities we serve.

Yesterday, Phoenix Society was honoured to take part in the 3rd Annual Community Connections in Substance Use Conference hosted by Options Community Services.

The event brought together community partners from across the sector to share knowledge, strengthen connections, and continue important conversations around substance use, mental health, and community care.

Phoenix Board Member Guy Felicella Consulting delivered the keynote address, speaking to the impacts of stigma surrounding substance use and the very real dangers stigma continues to create for individuals, families, and communities.

Johnny Loglisci - Rising Sun Program Manager, also participated in a panel discussion alongside sector representatives, sharing insight into the realities of working in the field, the challenges communities continue to face, and the meaningful progress being made through collaboration, compassion, and person-centered care.

It was a privilege to connect, learn, and share alongside so many passionate individuals and organizations committed to supporting healthier, more inclusive communities.

Today, we honour and remember Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people.

brings attention to the disproportionate violence experienced by Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people. This violence is rooted in the ongoing impacts of colonization. The colour red holds deep meaning. Indigenous teachings share that red is the only colour spirits can see, allowing the dresses to call the spirits back to their loved ones.

The dresses are a powerful symbol. They represent those who are missing and serve as a reminder of the more than 1,000 Indigenous women and girls who have been lost to violence in Canada.

At Phoenix, we recognize that healing, safety, and connection to culture are essential to well-being. We are committed to listening, learning, and taking meaningful steps toward Truth and Reconciliation and cultural safety.

As part of this commitment, we are working with Len Pierre Consulting to develop an Indigenous Cultural Safety and Reconciliation Action Plan. Today, Phoenix Society was proud to stand alongside Amna Shah (BC Government), Brenda Locke, and the City of Surrey to officially announce new homes that will support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Surrey.

Bentley Place will provide safe, stable housing with 24/7 on-site supports, creating a space where individuals can build connection, strengthen well-being, and move forward on their own terms. As part of Phoenix’s continuum of care, this development connects housing with health, community, and recovery supports -ensuring people have access to what they need, when they need it.
