Faith • Community • Service • Legacy Welcome to Masjid Umar Bin Khattab, formerly known as the Afghan Canadian Association of B.C. ,a historic institution with roots stretching back to 1990. This association was the original Afghan society in Canada, established by a small group of under 50 families who arrived as refugees in the 1980s during the Soviet Occupation. In those early days, our founders came together to form a supportive community, helping each other navigate the challenges of a new life in Canada. Over the years, as more Afghan families arrived, our society grew in size and significance, becoming a trusted and vital organization for Afghan refugees and immigrants. Today, Masjid Umar Bin Khattab stands as a testament to the resilience and unity of the Afghan community in British Columbia. With over 100,000 Afghans in B.C., our mosque continues to provide essential services, advocacy,support, and a place of worship for a thriving and diverse population. We honor our rich history and the trust we have built with the Canadian government and our community members. As the original Afghan society in Canada, we remain dedicated to serving and uplifting Afghan refugees and immigrants, fostering a strong, united, and prosperous community for generations to come. 🚨 ISLAM AND HONESTY GO HAND IN HAND. YES—EVEN IN POLITICS.

🗣️ “You have to lie to succeed in politics.”

Who says? A position of power does not give anyone permission to abandon their principles.

🕌 Prophet Muhammad ﷺ led with truth and trustworthiness. Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (RA) and Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) showed that faith, accountability and strong leadership belong together.

Their example still speaks: serve the people. Keep your promises. Stand for justice—even when it costs you.

💯 Our lesson? Never teach our children that success requires dishonesty. Teach them to work hard, speak the truth and trust Allah with the outcome.

🕌 پیامبر اسلام ﷺ با راستگویی و امانت‌داری رهبری کردند. ابوبکر صدیق و عمر بن خطاب رضی‌الله‌عنهما نشان دادند که ایمان، پاسخ‌گویی و رهبری نیرومند می‌توانند در کنار هم باشند.

پیام زندگی آنان هنوز روشن است: به مردم خدمت کنید. به وعده‌های خود وفا کنید. از عدالت دفاع کنید؛ حتی اگر به زیان خودتان باشد.

🗳️ 450 CONFIRMED VOTES. A 395-VOTE VICTORY. EVERY VOTE MATTERED.

🎉 Congratulations, Zeeshan Wahla!

We went through our membership lists. We followed up with community voters. Our confirmed count: 450 people who told us they voted for Zeeshan.

The winning margin? 395 votes.

🔥 Our community’s confirmed votes exceeded the margin of victory. That is the power of showing up.

At Masjid Umar bin Khattab Islamic Society (MUBKIS), we are proud to have helped deliver this victory. Our volunteers knocked on doors. Our families spread the word. Our community turned out. Those efforts mattered.

One masjid. One determined community. A difference that can decide a close election.

When the contest between the NDP and Conservatives comes down to a few hundred votes, never let anyone tell you your voice is too small to matter.

🚨 ایبی انتخابات را برگزار کرد؛ محافظه‌کاران تاریخ ساختند!

🗳️ برای نخستین بار از سال ۱۹۲۸، مردم بریتیش کلمبیا یک حکومت محافظه‌کار با اکثریت کرسی‌ها انتخاب کردند. انتظار نزدیک به یک قرن—پایان یافت!

🔥 ایبی اختلافات محافظه‌کاران را دید. بحران رهبری را دید. فرصت را دید. انتخابات را دو سال زودتر برگزار کرد—و سرنوشت حکومتش را به قمار گذاشت.

💥 این قمار نتیجهٔ معکوس داد؛ آن‌هم با شکستی سنگین!

وقتی مردم پای صندوق‌های رأی رفتند، تنها ۳۴ روز از آغاز رهبری موقت لورن دورکسن گذشته بود. بدون رهبر دایمی. تنها حدود یک ماه فرصت برای اثبات خودش. نتیجه؟ پیروزی تاریخی محافظه‌کاران!

📣 SMALL SOCIETY. HARD WORK. A VOICE THAT MATTERS.

Amna Shah, we are in your riding. Never underestimate the small communities of Surrey City Centre.

After supporting you in the last election, our elders asked for a simple letter or video supporting Masjid Umar bin Khattab Islamic Society as we face the City’s road and relocation plans. Having seen your support for Iqra Islamic School, we hoped you would stand with us too.

We weren’t asking for a guarantee. We were asking for a voice of support. You said you would think about it and call the next day. That call never came.

Zeeshan Wahla gave us his word that he would advocate for our community. We put our energy behind him—and went to work.

🚪 At least 500 doors knocked, with our total estimate reaching 1,000.
🪧 Ten straight days of sign waving. No days off.
📍 104 Avenue and King George Boulevard. 108 Avenue and King George Boulevard.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Our members, parents, children and volunteers showing up and speaking to voters.

Amna, that effort could have been on your side.

Based on that work and our conversations with voters, we are confident our combined efforts influenced at least 300 votes. That is our assessment of our impact, not a verified ballot count.

If Zeeshan wins by a margin of 300 votes or fewer, we will proudly claim our share of the credit for helping make the difference.

We may be a small society, but our commitment is strong. We knock on doors. We stand at intersections. We speak to our neighbours. We put in the work.

Support is earned. Every vote matters. And small communities deserve to be heard.

🇨🇦 🗳️ LIBERAL IN OTTAWA. CONSERVATIVE IN B.C.? YES—HERE’S WHY.

New to Canada—or confused by the party names? Remember this: federal and provincial elections choose TWO DIFFERENT governments.

🏛️ Federal election → Ottawa: You elect MPs who deal with national issues, such as immigration, defence and foreign affairs.

🏔️ Provincial election → Victoria: You elect MLAs who deal with B.C. issues, such as hospitals, schools and housing policy.

🔴 The former BC Liberal Party was NOT the B.C. branch of the federal Liberal Party.

🔵 The BC Conservatives are also a separate organization from the federal Conservatives. Similar names and some shared beliefs—but separate leadership and candidates.

🤝 So why did many former BC Liberals move toward the Conservatives?

The BC Liberals, later renamed BC United, brought together people from the political centre and the right. Some voted Liberal federally. Others voted Conservative federally. They worked together provincially as an alternative to the NDP.

When BC United suspended its election campaign in 2024, its leader encouraged supporters to back the BC Conservatives. Many followed because they wanted another option against the NDP and feared that dividing their votes between two parties would help the NDP win.

➡️ For many people, their beliefs stayed similar—the party they supported changed. But not every former BC Liberal moved to the Conservatives.

⚖️ WHY DOES THE CENTRE MATTER?

Centre voters are people whose views fall somewhere between the left and the right. They may agree with different parties on different issues.

Winning B.C. usually means reaching beyond your strongest supporters and earning the trust of these voters too. A party needs broad support to win—and govern.

✅ That is why someone can vote Liberal in Ottawa and Conservative in Victoria. They are choosing different candidates, different policies and different governments.

📣 KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. ASK QUESTIONS. MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT.

اگر تازه به کانادا آمده‌اید یا نام حزب‌ها شما را گیج می‌کند، این نکته را به یاد داشته باشید: انتخابات فدرال و ولایتی برای انتخاب دو حکومت جداگانه است.

🏛️ انتخابات فدرال ← اتاوا: نمایندگان پارلمان را انتخاب می‌کنید که دربارهٔ مسائل سراسری مانند مهاجرت، دفاع و روابط خارجی تصمیم می‌گیرند.

🏔️ انتخابات ولایتی ← ویکتوریا: نمایندگان مجلس بریتیش کلمبیا را انتخاب می‌کنید که دربارهٔ شفاخانه‌ها، مکاتب و پالیسی‌های مسکن تصمیم می‌گیرند.

🔴 حزب پیشین لیبرال بریتیش کلمبیا، شعبهٔ حزب لیبرال فدرال نبود.

🔵 حزب محافظه‌کار بریتیش کلمبیا هم از حزب محافظه‌کار فدرال جدا است. نام‌های مشابه و بعضی دیدگاه‌های مشترک دارند، اما رهبران و نامزدان‌شان جدا هستند.

🤝 پس چرا بسیاری از طرفداران پیشین لیبرال‌های بی‌سی به محافظه‌کاران روی آوردند؟

حزب لیبرال بی‌سی که بعداً BC United نام گرفت، افراد میانه‌رو و راست‌گرا را یک‌جا کرده بود. بعضی در انتخابات فدرال به لیبرال‌ها رأی می‌دادند و بعضی به محافظه‌کاران. اما در سطح ولایت، با هم یک گزینهٔ دیگر در برابر NDP ساخته بودند.

وقتی BC United کارزار انتخاباتی خود را در سال ۲۰۲۴ متوقف کرد، رهبرش از طرفداران خواست از محافظه‌کاران بی‌سی حمایت کنند. بسیاری این کار را کردند، چون یک گزینهٔ دیگر در برابر NDP می‌خواستند و نگران بودند که تقسیم شدن رأی‌های‌شان میان دو حزب، به پیروزی NDP کمک کند.

➡️ برای بسیاری، باورهای‌شان تقریباً همان ماند؛ حزبی که حمایت می‌کردند تغییر کرد. اما همهٔ طرفداران پیشین لیبرال به محافظه‌کاران نپیوستند.

⚖️ چرا رأی میانه‌روها مهم است؟

میانه‌روها کسانی هستند که دیدگاه‌های‌شان میان چپ و راست قرار دارد. ممکن است در یک موضوع با یک حزب و در موضوع دیگر با حزب دیگری موافق باشند.

برای پیروزی در بی‌سی، معمولاً تنها حمایت طرفداران همیشگی کافی نیست؛ اعتماد رأی‌دهندگان میانه‌رو هم مهم است. یک حزب برای پیروزی و حکومت‌داری به حمایت گسترده نیاز دارد.

✅ به همین دلیل، یک نفر می‌تواند در انتخابات فدرال لیبرال و در انتخابات ولایتی محافظه‌کار باشد. او نامزدان، برنامه‌ها و حکومت‌های متفاوت را انتخاب می‌کند.

📣 NO STATUS REQUIRED. EVERY HUMAN COUNTS.

Not everyone can afford fancy clothes or expensive cars. Not everyone speaks polished English or has powerful connections. None of that should decide whose suffering matters—or whose voice gets heard.

🕌 Following the example of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Prophet Isa, peace be upon him, means putting compassion into action they focused on “marginalized people” in there societies not the rich,fancy and powerful…

🪯 Guru Nanak Dev Ji welcomed the poor and challenged caste divisions. Guru Amar Das Ji made sharing langar—sitting together and eating as equals, rich and poor—a requirement for those seeking to meet him. ❤️

Sit beside those others overlook. Feed them. Clothe them. Listen to them. Speak up against their mistreatment—and help their own voices be heard. 🗣️

A person experiencing homelessness belongs in our community. A person living with mental illness deserves respect. A person struggling with addiction deserves care.

Our community. Our responsibility. Nobody beneath dignity. Nobody beyond compassion. ❤️

📣 برای ارزشمند بودن، مقام لازم نیست. هر انسان ارزش دارد.

همه توان خرید لباس گران‌قیمت و موتر لوکس را ندارند. همه انگلیسی بی‌نقص صحبت نمی‌کنند و با افراد قدرتمند رابطه ندارند. هیچ‌کدام از این‌ها نباید تعیین کند که درد چه کسی مهم است و صدای چه کسی شنیده شود.

🕌 پیروی از حضرت محمد ﷺ و حضرت عیسی علیه‌السلام یعنی مهربانی را به عمل تبدیل کنیم.

کنار کسانی بنشینیم که دیگران نادیده‌شان می‌گیرند. به آنان غذا و لباس بدهیم. حرف‌شان را بشنویم. در برابر بدرفتاری با آنان صدا بلند کنیم و کمک کنیم صدای خودشان شنیده شود. 🗣️

انسان بی‌سرپناه هم عضو جامعهٔ ماست. کسی که با بیماری روانی زندگی می‌کند، سزاوار احترام است. کسی که با اعتیاد مبارزه می‌کند، شایستهٔ مراقبت است.

جامعهٔ ما. مسئولیت ما. هیچ‌کس بی‌ارزش نیست. هیچ‌کس نباید از مهربانی محروم بماند. ❤️
