Today was the second session of Handle with Care for our moms, and today's focus was about promoting and enhancing self-esteem in their kids. Many parents don’t realize that building your child's self esteem starts from the very beginning, even when they are just babies!
Inspired by the book ‘Have You Filled A Bucket Today?’ by Carol McCloud, we are reminded that everyone has an invisible bucket that holds your good thoughts and feelings about yourself. You fill someone else’s bucket when you show love, kindness and care, and dip into someone’s bucket when you’re mean or ignore them.
As a mom, you can fill your little ones buckets everyday by doing the simplest things!
🍼Cuddling and comforting your baby when they cry.
🍼Smiling, talking and making eye contact with them.
🍼Celebrating milestones - even small ones.
🍼Encouraging them as they learn new things.
🍼Showing them love, patience and support.
These little moments help your baby feel loved, safe, supported and build the foundation for a healthy self esteem as they grow. A baby that grows up with their bucket filled are more likely to be a bucket filler, instead of a bucket dipper. Just like in the picture, a little boy's bucket was filled just from a small and wave from one of Hope House's babies!
