Today marks the beginning of Pride Month — a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and communities across Canada and around the world.

At The Village, we believe that everyone deserves to live with dignity, safety, respect, and the freedom to be their authentic selves. Pride is not only a celebration of progress, but also a reminder that many people still face barriers, discrimination, homelessness, poverty, and exclusion simply because of who they are.

This month, we stand with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and reaffirm our commitment to creating a more inclusive, welcoming, and compassionate community for all.

Whether you're attending a Pride event, supporting a local organization, learning more about 2SLGBTQIA+ history, or simply showing kindness and acceptance, every act of support helps build a stronger community.

The Island Essentials Benefit will put money back into Islanders’ pockets starting July 2026.

As this benefit rolls out, it’s important to stay alert and avoid scams.

Here’s what you need to know:
• You do not need to provide your private details to be eligible, or to receive this benefit
• No one from the provincial or federal government will contact you directly to help you sign up for the Island Essentials Benefit
• Eligible Islanders will receive the benefit automatically after filing their 2025 tax return with the Canada Revenue Agency

UPDATE: The damage deposit has been paid in full. Remaining goal is $225 to cover the electric deposit.🙏🖤

🚨COMMUNITY SUPPORT NEEDED🚨

Today, we are celebrating a huge milestone for one of our clients. After facing tremendous challenges, they have officially secured permanent low-income housing and have also obtained full-time employment in construction beginning May 27th. 🏠👏

This is exactly the kind of life-changing progress our community makes possible together.

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, this individual has already received work boots and tools needed to begin their new job. ❤️

We are now trying to help cover the final barriers standing in the way of a fresh start:

• $150 remaining for the housing damage deposit
• $250 electricity deposit

Total needed: $400

Every dollar helps move someone from instability into safe housing and stable employment. If you are able to contribute, no matter the amount, it would make an immediate and meaningful difference.

As part of our Sow Good Campaign, we’re encouraging everyone to plant now, share later 🌿 Donate your fresh veggies back to the fridge during harvest season to help support local families.
