We wanted to let everyone know that the PEI Fight for Affordable Housing is hosting two screenings of a movie which might interest you. "Thinking beyond the Market - A Film about Genuinely Affordable Housing" is a movie made by Professor of Planning at University of Waterloo, Brian Doucet.

Summerside Library, Family Room
Tuesday, October 13th

Wednesday October 14th
6 p.m.

Brian travelled around the country and interviewed people involved in creating public or non profit housing which was built to directly meet known needs in their community. He suggests that we should not be relying on the market for housing, but rather community-owned and operated housing which is designed to properly address people's needs. He came to PEI in his travels and met briefly with PEI Fight for Affordable Housing.

Brian is going to join remotely after the film for a Q and A period at both screenings.

**📢 Community Support Needed 📢**

We are reaching out to our community with an urgent request for help.

Due to the overwhelming need we have seen recently, we have officially run out of tents and many of the essential supplies that help us support individuals experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in our community.

At this time, we are in need of:

*Tents
*Sleeping bags
*Tarps
*Camping supplies
*Gift cards for Tim Hortons
*Gift cards for restaurants and food establishments
*Other basic necessities and survival supplies

If you have any of these items that you are willing to donate, we would be incredibly grateful. Every donation helps us provide immediate support to someone in need.

Today marks the beginning of Pride Month — a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and communities across Canada and around the world.

At The Village, we believe that everyone deserves to live with dignity, safety, respect, and the freedom to be their authentic selves. Pride is not only a celebration of progress, but also a reminder that many people still face barriers, discrimination, homelessness, poverty, and exclusion simply because of who they are.

This month, we stand with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and reaffirm our commitment to creating a more inclusive, welcoming, and compassionate community for all.

Whether you're attending a Pride event, supporting a local organization, learning more about 2SLGBTQIA+ history, or simply showing kindness and acceptance, every act of support helps build a stronger community.

The Island Essentials Benefit will put money back into Islanders’ pockets starting July 2026.

As this benefit rolls out, it’s important to stay alert and avoid scams.

Here’s what you need to know:
• You do not need to provide your private details to be eligible, or to receive this benefit
• No one from the provincial or federal government will contact you directly to help you sign up for the Island Essentials Benefit
• Eligible Islanders will receive the benefit automatically after filing their 2025 tax return with the Canada Revenue Agency

UPDATE: The damage deposit has been paid in full. Remaining goal is $225 to cover the electric deposit.🙏🖤

🚨COMMUNITY SUPPORT NEEDED🚨

Today, we are celebrating a huge milestone for one of our clients. After facing tremendous challenges, they have officially secured permanent low-income housing and have also obtained full-time employment in construction beginning May 27th. 🏠👏

This is exactly the kind of life-changing progress our community makes possible together.

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, this individual has already received work boots and tools needed to begin their new job. ❤️

We are now trying to help cover the final barriers standing in the way of a fresh start:

• $150 remaining for the housing damage deposit
• $250 electricity deposit

Total needed: $400

Every dollar helps move someone from instability into safe housing and stable employment. If you are able to contribute, no matter the amount, it would make an immediate and meaningful difference.
