October is Library month!

CUPE NL would like to thank library workers in Newfoundland and Labrador for everything they do for our communities.

Libraries are so much more than places to borrow books. They are welcoming community spaces where people can learn, connect, access technology, find information, and feel a sense of belonging. They help strengthen communities, support lifelong learning, and make sure everyone has a place to turn.

⚾️ What a weekend! ⚾️

Our 3rd Annual CUPE NL softball tournament was a huge success! The weather held, the laughs were loud, and everyone had a great time.

The final game between two-time defending champs City of Mount Pearl and City of St. John’s (A) went into extra innings and was better than an MLB game!

Congratulations to City of St. John’s (A) on taking home the win!

A donation of $2500 will be made to Bridges to Hope Food Aid Centre. Thank you to everyone who played, supported, and made it such a fun weekend.

🧡 September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Today, CUPE Newfoundland and Labrador honours residential school Survivors, the children who never returned home, and the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of colonialism and the residential school system.

Truth and reconciliation is not a one-day commitment. It calls on all of us to listen, learn, reflect, and take meaningful action—today and every day.

Inspired by the story of residential school survivor Phyllis (Jack) Webstad from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation, people across Canada have commemorated September 30 as Orange Shirt Day since 2013, and now also mark the day as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
