World Refugee Day is a time to honour the strength, resilience and contributions of refugees in our communities and around the world.

When people are forced to flee their homes, the least we can do is welcome them with compassion, dignity and care.

RNU stands in solidarity with refugees and all those seeking safety.

Until everyone is safe.

Safe Staffing Saves Lives

Safe Staffing Starts in Your Community

It affects whether patients receive care when they need it, whether nurses can safely manage their workloads, and whether families can rely on public healthcare close to home.

Healthcare should be something people can rely on.
Right now, too many can’t.

Safe staffing saves patients. Safe staffing saves nurses. Safe staffing saves healthcare.

Email your MHA and call for enforceable safe staffing standards.

Nomination Period Extended: Regions 4 & 6

RNU has extended the nomination period for Regional Representative positions in Regions 4 and 6.

Regional Representatives play an important role in bringing members’ experiences, concerns, ideas, and priorities to the Provincial Board table. They help connect branches with the Board, raise regional issues, support communication with members, and contribute to decisions that guide RNU’s work.

Members in Regions 4 and 6 are encouraged to consider putting their name forward or encouraging someone in their region to let their name stand.

Nominations close at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Full details on the nomination process have been emailed to members in Region 4 and 6!

Your union needs your voice.

A warm welcome to one of RNU’s newest Branch 11 members!

Branch 11 President Julia Young recently completed an RNU orientation session with a new member. Also pictured are Breanna Boyles, Nursing Education Coordinator, and Alyssa Stewart, nursing student.

Orientation sessions are an important opportunity to connect new members with their union, answer questions, and make sure they know they are supported as part of RNU.

Welcome to Branch 11 — we’re glad to have you with us!

This “exercise” by NLHS was unnecessarily unkind and cruel.

Healthcare workers are working short. Nurses are working mandatory overtime. Workers are being denied leave. Sacrifices were made to implement CorCare.

Then this trick was disguised as a thank you — a fake promise of paid leave for dedicated, hard-working professionals who have given so much of their time to their employer.

Do you think NLHS should recognize the workers it depends on and honour the promised time off, or is it OK to play a trick like this?

Head over to VOCM and let them know.

June 18 is Autistic Pride Day — a day to recognize and celebrate autistic people, their strengths, identities and contributions.

RNU affirms the importance of inclusion, respect and accessibility in our workplaces and communities. Today and every day, we support the right of autistic people to be valued, heard and accepted as they are.

The RNU is raising concerns after NLHS conducted a phishing awareness exercise that used the promise of an additional paid day off as the hook for employees.

The message was especially insensitive at a time when many nurses and health-care professionals are exhausted, struggling to access leave, and managing significant change across the health system.

There are many ways to test phishing awareness without exploiting the very real stress, fatigue, and frustration health-care workers are experiencing.

Workers deserve genuine recognition for the work they are doing, not a fake promise of appreciation used as a test.

Congratulations to Jennifer Druken on achieving her Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation.

This is a significant professional achievement, and a reflection of the dedication, hard work, and expertise Jennifer brings to her role at RNU.

Jennifer recently joined her colleague and fellow Labour Relations Officer, Krista Earle, at CPHR NL’s HR Day in St. John’s.

Their continued professional development strengthens the support, representation, and expertise RNU provides to members across the province.

Congratulations, Jennifer, and thank you to our Labour Relations team for their ongoing commitment to members.
