🚨 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐨!

If you’re near the coast and the ground shakes:

British Columbia is prone to earthquakes. Earthquakes can cause tsunami, making it vital to be aware of these safety procedures in coastal areas.

𝐁𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐓𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢:

1️⃣ Know your tsunami zone (A–E) and local evacuation routes.
2️⃣ Understand tsunami alert levels.
3️⃣ Know that all coastal areas in BC can experience tsunamis.
4️⃣ Know your local inundation zone and safe meeting place.

𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐓𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢:

1️⃣ If you feel a strong earthquake near the coast: Drop, Cover, and Hold On. Wait for 60 seconds after the shaking stops.
2️⃣ Take your grab-and-go bag.
3️⃣ Move to higher ground immediately and stay there until advised by an authority that it is safe to return.
4️⃣ In case of coastal areas in the Lower Mainland, move away from the water.
5️⃣ If you cannot move away from water, move upward in a building.
6️⃣ Know the appropriate evacuation point so that your response is appropriate (not over-response).
7️⃣ Travel by foot/bike where possible to ensure roads are clear for emergency vehicles/people with extra needs.
