UPDATE: Due to the last 24 hours of rain and warm temperatures, putting the safety of our little participants and their families first, the Algoma Fish and Game Club is disappointed to announce the cancellation of this year's Children's Perch Derby at Neebish.

While there is still enough ice on the Bay to fish, the conditions are not conducive to hosting such a large scale event. There is a significant amount of water flowing down the road and onto the ice at our usual entrance making our access unsafe. The AFGC Derby Director, Volunteers, Vendors and Sponsors have been hard at work planning and preparing, but would prefer to put that effort into safe future kids' events.

Happy Family Day Weekend!!

Don't forget that this weekend is FREE License Family Fishing this weekend (Feb. 14-16).

The Algoma Fish and Game Club would like to share with you all that our local Ministry of Natural Resources team gave us some great intel to share with all of you about some local fish stocking that was completed as of yesterday!

With an average weight of about 1lb, here is a breakdown of some local water bodies with some fresh, hungry fish in them for you to chase!

Hart Lake - 400 fish
Tower Lake - 250 fish
Paquette Lake - 350 fish
Vixen Lake - 500 fish

The local MNR is continuing to encourage anglers to complete the stocked lakes survey available at: https://s.alchemer-ca.com/s3/Stocked-lakes-anglers-survey, which helps the MNR see how angler satisfaction and angling effort change post-stocking on these splake lakes.

Good luck and tight lines to all!

Our contact at the MNR has kindly asked our membership for assistance: If you are driving past (or stopping by) Paquette Lake this season, take a second and count how many anglers are out. Make note of the date and time - no need to stop, you can even just count as you drive by! If you see a hut we'll assume that is one angler.
Send your counts to us and we'll forward them on to support data collection already in progress.

VERY proud to be a part of this great event and we are looking forward to seeing all our amazing Veterans and hope to see even more captains and guide take part this coming summer on Saturday, June 6th, 2026!!!

We’re proud to spotlight a cherished tradition in Sault Ste. Marie: Take a Veteran Fishing Day!

For over five years, the Algoma Fish and Game Club—alongside Legion Branch # 25, the Auxiliary, and community partners—has brought veterans together with local anglers for a meaningful day on the water, honouring their service and building lasting connections.

The Algoma Fish and Game Club would like to send out a huge thank you and express its sincere appreciation to all of the Family and Friends who organize and participate in the Annual Ride for Brandon Scherzer.

This amazing fundraising event and celebration of such an amazing person provides our Club the ability to pay it forward by putting on important community events within the District of Algoma like the Kids Fall Fishing Event (October 5th) and the Children’s Perch Fishing Derby (Spring date TBD).

We hope you will join us in expressing our thanks to the Ride for Brandon team, and we also hope to see you at our next community event in earlhy October, helped made possible by these amazing people!
