April 24-26 Sault Search and Rescue hosted approximately 40 people from Search and Rescue Teams from around the province. We gathered for the annual Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association (OSARVA) annual general meeting. These dedicated volunteers traveled here out of their own pockets and Thanks to some very Generous donations from some local businesses, Northern Insurance, Sault Cycling Club, Toromont, TMS truck centre, PUC, DNM, Tim Hortons, Velorution, Kyle Slater, Metro, Grand Gardens, and Kinsmen, We were able to provide meals to these volunteers in turn bringing their personal expenses down. A heartfelt Thank You from all of us to these generous companies for their contributions.

Recently 6 of our volunteers supported the Alpine Club of Canada - Sault Ste. Marie's ICE FEST event! It was a cold and windy day! 🥶

Our volunteers regularly support community events like this by providing first aid coverage and other assistance to help keep participants safe.

When you’re out on the trails, cell service can be spotty and landmarks hard to describe. That’s where the what3words app comes in. It divides the entire world into 3m x 3m squares and assigns each one a unique combination of three words.

- Pinpoint Accuracy – Emergency responders can find your exact location, even in remote areas
- Works Offline – You can still retrieve your three-word address without full connectivity
- Fast Response – Instead of trying to explain “near the big tree by the bend,” you give three words and help knows exactly where to go
- Peace of Mind – Whether you’re stuck, injured or lost, this tool can save your life

Download What3Words from your preferred app store before you ride. It’s a simple step that could make all the difference.

🚨 TRAINING UPDATE! 🚨

Over the past two days, Sault Search and Rescue volunteers completed Ice Rescue Training with Access Rescue Canada, Inc.

Volunteers learned essential ice rescue equipment and techniques through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on, practical scenarios. Team members took turns rescuing one another while wearing specialized flotation suits designed to keep rescuers warm, dry, and safe in cold-water conditions.

This training is especially important given our region and the popularity of outdoor winter activities in our community.

Sault Search and Rescue operates entirely through donations and fundraising. If you’re able, please consider supporting our volunteers and lifesaving work by donating today. ❤️ https://www.saultsar.com/
