How does Merit advocate for contractors like you?

Merit Saskatchewan is the voice of the open shop construction industry at the provincial and national levels. We represent contractors in discussions with government, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to ensure open shop construction has a seat at the table when decisions are being made.

Our advocacy work covers workforce development, procurement policies, labour relations, regulatory impacts, and anything else that affects how contractors operate in Saskatchewan. We fight for fair competition, merit-based opportunity, and policies that reflect the realities of how construction actually works in this province.

We also provide input on apprenticeship systems, training programs, safety standards, and infrastructure investments to make sure the open shop sector is represented and heard. When legislation is being drafted or policies are being shaped, Merit is there making sure your voice is part of the conversation.

Being a Merit member means you're not navigating government relations alone. You've got an association actively working to protect and promote the open shop model in Saskatchewan.

Introducing Trade Trek.

Merit Saskatchewan and the Saskatoon Industry Education Council are proud to announce a new initiative designed to connect Saskatchewan youth with careers in the skilled trades.

A lot of students don't realize how many opportunities are out there in construction or how rewarding these careers can be. Trade Trek changes that by showing students how exciting the trades actually are.

Our industry needs the next generation. This is about getting students excited about building Saskatchewan's future.

Starting a career in the skilled trades through apprenticeship is one of the best decisions you can make in Saskatchewan.

Apprenticeship combines on-the-job training with technical education, allowing you to earn while you learn. You work alongside experienced tradespeople, gain real skills on actual job sites, and progress through your training at a structured pace. When you complete your apprenticeship, you earn a recognized certification that opens doors across the province and beyond.

In Saskatchewan, apprenticeships are available in dozens of trades, from electrical and plumbing to heavy equipment operation, carpentry, welding, and more. You don't need a university degree to build a successful career. You need skills, commitment, and the willingness to learn.

Open shop contractors across Saskatchewan are invested in apprenticeship training. They hire apprentices, provide mentorship, and create opportunities for people to build long-term careers in construction. Merit Saskatchewan supports apprentices through bursaries, resources, and advocacy to make sure the apprenticeship system works for both workers and employers.

If you're considering the trades or want to learn more about how apprenticeship works in Saskatchewan, Merit has the resources you need.

Ryan Todd on what he's most proud of at Quorex Construction Services Ltd

It's watching a project transform from the tender stage into a finished building. It's the team working together, building together, and delivering results.

Merit offers a strong advocacy platform for the open shop sector, and Ryan's advice to other contractors is simple: support your employees with training, benefits, and workplace wellness programs. That's how you build a strong company.

That's what Merit helps contractors do every day.

Open shop contractors are deeply invested in apprenticeship training, safety, and mentorship.

We're not just handing someone a tool and walking away. We're teaching the trade. We're building skills. We're creating careers that last.

That's what open shop construction is all about. Training the next generation of Saskatchewan's workforce.

There's a myth that open shop means anti-worker. That's not true.

Open shop is about choice, not taking anything away. Open shop workers earn competitive wages, have access to benefits, training, and strong safety standards. Merit members invest heavily in their people because that's how you build good companies and strong careers.

Why should the average Saskatchewan resident care? Because construction touches everyone. Open shop keeps projects on budget, on schedule, and locally delivered. It means more Saskatchewan companies working, more people employed, and more dollars staying in the province.

Open shop isn't about being against anything. It's about giving workers and contractors the freedom to succeed.

Quorex Construction is building Saskatchewan.

From schools and heritage sites to co-ops and community facilities, Quorex has been delivering commercial, institutional, and industrial projects across the province for years. Based in Saskatoon and Regina, they're a locally owned company committed to quality, organization, and results.

Their approach is simple: teamwork builds quality. And it shows in the projects they've completed, from Wanuskewin Heritage Park to schools in Onion Lake and Gravelbourg, to co-op facilities across rural Saskatchewan.

Quorex is a proud Merit Saskatchewan member, and we're proud to have them as part of the open shop construction community.
