We have a mandate to facilitate learning and opportunities that enable Haitians and Dominicans to achieve their goals, develop their knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in the wider society. We aim to build awareness of social justice issues facing communities in the developing world, and facilitate partnerships and support community-led development initiatives to address these issues. Rayjon also hosts Eyeglass Clinics, Awareness and Health Care Trips.

Partnership makes everything possible!

We're excited to share that CNEWC in Cap-Haitien has entered into a new partnership with Meds & Food for Kids! Partnerships like this make a real difference, working together always strengthens the impact we can have. Thanks to this collaboration, CNEWC's malnutrition program now has a steady supply of medications and essentials like Medika Mamba, the supplement that plays such a key role in moving children from malnutrition to health.

MFK's team also met with CNEWC's staff to share updates on best practices in malnutrition treatment, as procedures and approaches in this field continue to evolve. CNEWC's team works incredibly hard, and this partnership will only add to the strength of the program they've built.

Two Spots Open: Join Us in the Dominican Republic (November 21-29, 2026)

You might remember our trips from before. This one's different, on purpose.

This isn't about getting your hands dirty. It's not a work trip, and it's not about showing up to observe or judge how things are done. This trip is about visiting our partners in Consuelo, seeing the work they're leading, and bringing those stories home. It's about laughing, joking, and sitting down with community members. It's about connecting deeper with Rayjon's mission and understanding, a little more honestly, what "local to global" actually looks like on the ground.

That's the whole point: connecting local to global in a way that actually supports our partners, not one that speaks over them. No special skills required, just curiosity, humility, and a willingness to listen more than you lead. Especially looking for story-tellers and connectors!

Every Alpha journey starts the same way: someone decides it's time to learn. Four years later, that same student is reading and doing math at a grade 6 level.

Alpha Adult Literacy only happens because of the monitors, community leaders who teach curriculum to the neighbours in their communities, starting from the very first letters and numbers. This month in the hills of Saint-Marc, Haiti, a new group finished three weeks of training to lead classes across Level 1, 2, and 4.

Strong, motivated monitors are the heart of this program. We're excited that 3 classes will continue their journeys, and this September, two new Level 1 classes are opening in two communities that haven't had an Alpha class before!

One person, one lesson, one page at a time.

Calling all hype squad members!

We need volunteers for Trail Ale on September 19 on the Howard Watson Trail, and this one's going to be a good time. Love getting people excited and cheering them on? Want to soak up some of the last golden days of summer outside? This is your event. It's also a great way for high schoolers to knock out some volunteer hours on a calm Saturday morning, so bring a friend!

There are all kinds of roles to fill, and honestly, this event could not happen without our volunteers!

Your weekend reading:
You've probably heard us talk about "pivoting" before, and it's not hard to guess why it's necessary. But do you know what it actually looks like on the ground?

In Saint-Marc, it means moving exam day when a "red zone" makes travel unsafe. It means a hard conversation about which equipment stays and which moves. It means finding a new way to teach kids who've been scattered across a dozen villages.

None of it happens without the community calling the shots.

Last month, our Executive Director Allison received a grant from the Gay Lea Foundation supporting our programming in Saint-Marc. She was honoured to tour the Stewardson family farm in Thedford, joined by Jeff Stewardson, Gay Lea board member and dairy farmer, and Kelly McNamara, Lead for Community Investment at the Gay Lea Foundation.

This grant will fund food sovereignty training and community gardens, meaning families in Saint-Marc will have access to sustainable, year-round produce, even when roads are blocked and food can't get through.

We're honoured to have been selected, and full of gratitude for the Gay Lea Foundation's support and the values we share.

This is the first year of our Digital Skills Program at our partner PLADESCULBa in Barrio 41, Consuelo, Dominican Republic, launched in response to community members asking for practical, employable skills.

More than 10 students enrolled from day one, with a steady core of 5 attending every Tuesday and Thursday. All 5 have mastered the basics: typing, word processing, email, and internet navigation. For one student, this was their first time ever using a computer.

The impact is already showing up in daily life: all 5 are applying their skills at school, in small businesses, or in community roles. Students finishing their first level are lining up for the next, one has already landed a job offer because of what they learned here.

Advanced modules like spreadsheets and design are next as more students join.

Community need, meet real opportunity.

Observed every August 16, this national holiday commemorates the restoration of the Dominican Republic’s independence in 1865 and honours the bravery of those who fought for the country’s sovereignty.

It is a day filled with pride, culture, music, and celebration, a reflection of the strength and spirit of the Dominican people.
