We are on the march for Tantramar.

We are pleased to announce that DeLancey’s will be in the Tantramar region on the weekend of August 7 – 9 to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the 1776 Eddy Rebellion and Siege of Fort Cumberland.

The Brigade will encamp at Mount Whatley on the grounds of St. Mark’s Anglican Church and participate in anniversary events to be held at the Fort Beausejour – Fort Cumberland National Historic Site, staged in cooperation with Parks Canada, on Saturday, August 8.

The weekend will include re-enactor demonstrations both in our camp and at the Fort, including military and civilian activities. Plans also in include guest presenters and a special program that will explore the experience of local residents at the time of the siege as related by their descendants.

The full schedule of events for the weekend is nearing completion and will be released shortly.

Please come out and see us in August.

In November 1776, in the early days of the American Revolution, a group of about 180 men sympathetic to the cause of the rebellious American colonies attacked Fort Cumberland. (Fort Beauséjour – Fort Cumberland National Historic Site, Aulac, New Brunswick) The group, largely gathered from within the boundaries of what was then Nova Scotia, hoped to instigate a rebellion that would bring Nova Scotia into the Revolution - the 14th colony. Following unsuccessful attempts to take the fort, the conflict turned into a month-long siege, successfully defended by the small garrison and eventually lifted with the arrival of British troop reinforcements from Halifax.

We don't think the 250th anniversary of this pivotal event in our history should pass by un-noticed. Exciting news to follow (very soon)...

A lean-to shelter was the backdrop for our demonstration at yesterday's inaugural Military History Expo at the NB Military History Museum. While we're often seen with a more substantial assortment of canvas, we decided to present a different scenario this time out. Small detachments of solders on the move would have been unlikely to have tents available for an overnight stop on the march. Simply rolling up in a blanket or, in wet conditions, erecting a shelter like this would have been more common. We had a great day interpreting the life of a soldier in the field for a steady stream of visitors. Thanks to everyone to stopped by and to the NBMHM - MHMNB for hosting us.

The Province of New Brunswick's very roots were planted by conflict - the arrival of refugees from the American Revolution triggered the creation of the independent colony of New Brunswick. And our province has a long and distinguished history - before and since the arrival of the Loyalists - of military service in defence of our home, our nation and our allies. Take the opportunity to learn more about our military heritage this Summer Of History.

A busy, productive weekend to kick off the re-enacting season. Today we were on the move for Loyalist Day in Saint John. From the welcoming volley at Place Fort La Tour, to posting up at Loyalist House while our civilian corps helped with interpretive duties inside, to honouring the loyal refugees who founded our city, in the cemetery where thousands off them were laid to rest, it was a great day in wool.
