Today the volunteers gathered to work on the indigenous healing garden located at the south east corner of the park. A template of a turtle was laid to be the foundation of the garden.

An Indigenous Healing Garden is a space designed to promote reflection, learning, wellness, and connection to the land through the use of native plants. These gardens often feature medicinal, edible, and culturally significant plants, along with gathering spaces that encourage community, storytelling, and healing. They serve as places to honour Indigenous knowledge, foster reconciliation, and strengthen relationships between people and the natural world.

When shaped like a turtle, the garden draws on the Indigenous teaching of Turtle Island, a name used by many Indigenous Nations for North America. In many creation stories, the turtle carries the land on its back, symbolizing life, protection, resilience, and our interconnectedness with the Earth. The turtle's shell, with its distinctive pattern, is also associated with the cycles of nature, including the 13 moons of the year.

A huge thank you to those that braved the cold wet weather to show up for our sale. We had a very hard working crew that came together to make this a massive success. It’s from the support of our community that we continue to preserve this important piece of Carolinian forest. See you next year!

We are pleased to announce that there will be a few extra bonus' at our plant sale this year!

9:00 - 10:00 - Bird watching hike at Malcolmson with Jean Hampson and Bob Highcock. Bob and Jean are frequent "birders" at Malcolmson and enjoy walking through the park looking for their favourite birds. Don't forget your binoculars and a camera if you like to take pictures.

10:00 - 11:00 - Beekeeper Rob Richardson will give a presentation on domestic bees and their part in the natural world via his demonstration hive. Rob hopes to have honey to sell from his bees that live in Malcolmson.

11:00 - 12:00 - Joe Prytula will present the other side of the bee kingdom - the wild bees or "wee bees" as Joe likes to call them. Joe would like to show how we can help the wild bees thrive in our backyard.

We would also like to extend our congratulations to Janice H who participated in our social media contest and won a $50 gift certificate to spend at the sale!

Hope to see you there, looks like we might need to bring an umbrella☔
