Edmonton is building! In the first half of 2026, 17,900 homes were under construction across the city, marking a record high.

It’s an encouraging sign for housing supply, but more homes alone don’t guarantee affordability. As our city continues to grow, ensuring people at all income levels have access to safe, stable and affordable housing remains an important part of the conversation.

More funding is coming to support housing growth across Alberta!

A new federal-provincial agreement will invest more than $510 million over eight years into infrastructure that helps make new housing possible — including water, wastewater and stormwater systems.

With Alberta working toward 25,000 additional affordable homes by 2031, investments like these can help communities build the housing Albertans need.

Housing starts across Canada slowed in July, falling 5% from June, according to CMHC.

At the same time, housing completions increased by 8.1% — adding more homes to Canada’s existing supply.

As communities continue to face affordability challenges, maintaining momentum in new housing construction remains an important part of meeting both current and future housing needs.
