Coco arrived from a Quebec shelter into our care this week.

This sweet 9 year old boy was surrendered when his family could not care for him anymore. He had been with his family since puppyhood. He is a 10lb mini poodle.

The wonderful Freedom Drivers transported him to us. It was a long day in a crate for this poor boy - 11 hours - and he was so happy to arrive at his foster home.

He has shown us to be a lovely little guy - very friendly and affectionate - but oh my goodness did he stink. He was probably extremely stressed being in a shelter environment and he also had f***s caked on his behind and belly. He was is desperate need of a bath and groom and we are so unbelievably thankful to who got him in with an hours notice to get him cleaned up and feeling (and smelling) better.

While he was there he had bloodwork done and the staff also identified that he has a bad UTI. He will require a neuter and dental surgery. His mouth is an absolute mess with teeth missing and rotten molars. .

Thank you to our new foster home for welcoming Coco. We could not help this boy without them stepping up to take him in.

He is not yet available for adoption but watch our page for updates!

We've had a busy week around here at Adopt a Dog/Save a Life brining in 2 dogs!

First we welcomed adorable Nyla this week from Northern Manitoba.

This girl was born in March in the North. Nine puppies born - one died, 6 were given away - and Nyla and her sister Yoko were the last two remaining with their mom.
Lucky for them an amazing community member took them in and got them to our partners Manitoba Animal Alliance . This week, thanks to a lovely flight companion Justin and our friends at Flights For Hope , both of the sisters arrived in Ontario.

Yoko has gone to a foster home with and Nyla is settling in with her foster to adopt family.

Thank you for everyone who helped these girls. Their Mama will be receiving a birth control implant this month until a spay clinic can be arranged in the community where she lives. See less

May 2026 Update

Patch continues to make good strides in his foster home. He is a good-natured 8 month old pup who gets along well with everyone.

Patch gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home. He loves playing and cuddling with his foster dog buddies. He is also learning from them and has made good progress with his house training and other routines. We feel he is best in a home with another friendly dog so this learning and companionship can continue.

Patch needs a safely fenced back yard so that he can run and play safely. For that reason we feel he is best suited a detached home with a fenced yard. He would not do well in an apartment.

He loves to be outdoors and going for walks.

Patch would not do well being left alone for long hours during the day. He is not used to young children and for this reason we are seeking an adult home (children 12 years+).

Patch had his neurology appointment. We were concerned because he has a wobbly gait and tremors. The neurologist diagnosed Patch with cerebellar hypoplasia disease. According to her assessment he is not in pain, there is no treatment and his condition will not get worse.

The neurologist report includes the following:

He has no exercise restrictions. Must be cautious with high surfaces (furniture / getting out of cars) and stairs (up and down) and bodies of water. The main concern is
if he accidentally falls down the stairs/ furniture/ out of the car, causing injury and/or if he were to go into a body of water and cannot swim he could aspirate water or worse, drown. Please gate off access to the stairs and if walking around ponds, please have him on leash at all times. Patch can otherwise run, play with other dogs (that he gets along with), and enjoy walks, runs, etc...
Because Patch's movements are exaggerated and not always coordinated, please ensure that should he be introduced to new dogs (eg: in a setting of a dog park) that he can escape from dogs that may display aggression towards him so that he does not get injured.

We have scheduled Patch’s neuter for early June. He will be available for adoption once he is recovered. Please see our website for more information about our rescue and adoptions.

Our adoption process includes an online application, a telephone interview, a home visit (virtual or in person), reference checks and a meeting with Patch.
An adoption fee of $500 applies.

Patch is in a foster home in Lindsay ON.

Sweet Pom Pom has been waiting in his foster home for such a long time. He arrived last August - that is almost 10 months!

Everyone who meets Pom Pom is shocked that he hasn't been scooped up. He is a very friendly, social boy who is very engaging. He loves to chat and play fetch and watch the activity outside through the windows. He loves naps in the sun and to get belly rubs.

There must be someone out there who is looking for a wonderful companion.

Mabel came to us from a Northern Ontario shelter where she had been surrendered by her family when they were moving.

We are thrilled to let you know that she is now adopted!

Thank you to Amy and her family for fostering this sweet girl and to her new family for adopting!

A few weeks back we told you about Max. This boy was left behind when his family moved out of the country. In our attempts to help Max, we had him visit our veterinarian and bloodwork was done and sadly, we discovered he is Heartworm Positive.

Our post reached over 20,000 people and we are happy to say that Max is in a foster home and has started his Heartworm treatment. It is a long process but we will do everything to keep him happy and to get him healthy.

If you shared our post or reached out to inquire or offer to foster - THANK YOU ! We appreciate all the love for this boy.

Marcus was picked up as a stray in Quebec in March. He was taken to a shelter in pretty rough shape. He had many fresh injuries from some kind of altercation including many open infected wounds.

As he healed in the shelter, the staff saw what a sweet boy he is. He absolutely craves pets and scratches from his head to his tail. He is still a little bit scared but is hiding less and less everyday. He is eating like a champ and using his box perfectly.

While receiving vet care, it was discovered he is FIV +. This virus is primarily transmitted through deep bite wounds in which an infected cat's saliva enters the other cat's tissue. It can also be passed down through an infected mama cat. Regardless of this diagnosis, Marcus can live a long and healthy life!

Probably because of this, Marcus sat and sat in the shelter. Finally, after two months, he was given a deadline of May 8. This deadline is to be euthanized. We could not let that happen.

So instead of dying last Friday, he caught a ride with the amazing Freedom Drivers and made his was to the GTA. We are so grateful to all of the folks at One Last Chance who tirelessly advocate for animals in Quebec and to the Freedom Drivers.

Marcus needs to gain a bit of weight and we are going to work on boosting his immune system before we vaccinate and neuter him. He had bloodwork done and it all came back good.

For now, he is soaking up the love and pets and scratches from his sweet foster Mom and learning that he is now safe and will never be outdoors again..

Stay tuned for more info on Marcus as we get to know him better.

Stormy is still looking for her forever home.

Stormy is just over a year old and would really love a family of her own. She currently lives with 3 other dogs and would really love a backyard to chase her favourite ball.

She does need an experienced owner because she is a bit undersocialized and needs some training. She is a nice dog and quite beautiful.

Once she is comfortable with her people, she is very cuddly and sweet but a big standoffish at first.

Please read her entire bio here: https://www.petfinder.com/dog/stormy-1341edb7-037f-404e-a629-cc851934ffff/on/etobicoke/adopt-a-dog-save-a-life-on60/details/

Please take a minute to read about Max. He is a 4 year old beautiful German Shepherd who is urgently in need of a foster or forever home.

His family had to leave the country unexpectedly. If losing his family was not bad enough we just learned that Max is heart worm positive. Our rescue will cover all costs associated with his care and vetting.

Max is best in a house with a safely fenced back yard. He is friendly with people and well mannered in the house. He is housetrained and crate trained. . He loves to go for walks and is happiest in a quiet neighborhood.

If you are in the GTA and might be willing to foster or adopt Max please contact us for more information. Please share as this boy as this boy is in desperate needs
