Today, June 21st, National Indigenous Peoples day is an opportunity to learn, reflect, and deepen our understanding of the diverse Indigenous communities across Canada. By taking time to listen, learn, and engage respectfully, we contribute to ongoing efforts toward reconciliation and stronger relationships.

There are many meaningful ways to take part:

🟡Learn about the territory you are on and the Indigenous Nations who have cared for it since time immemorial.

🟡Support Indigenous artists, creators, and businesses by purchasing their work and amplifying their voices.

🟡Attend a local National Indigenous Peoples Day event to experience cultural performances, teachings, storytelling, and community celebrations.

🟡Read, listen, and reflect by exploring Indigenous books, films, podcasts, and educational resources that share Indigenous perspectives and experiences.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is a chance to celebrate Indigenous cultures, acknowledge the past and present, and commit to continued learning throughout the year. Every step toward understanding helps build a more respectful and inclusive future for all.

Celebrate Pride this month and every month! ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💜

There is no one way to celebrate Pride. The true importance is understanding the meaning behind the celebration. If your children come to you with thoughts and questions, be honest and open and let your child know that they can always come to you. This will set the foundation for future, more in – depth conversations.

Reading books with your family is a great way to learn about Pride, diverse
families and acceptance for all. Check out the Toy and Book Lending Library for resources to share with your family (and grab a free Pride Craft Kit while you're there!)

"We 💚the new set up"
"The kids were so excited about the new table"

This spring, our Lakefield Community Garden EarlyON plot has not only been prepared and planted, but has also undergone a little revitalization.

Wooden pallets destined for the landfill, were salvaged and upcycled into a beautiful functional gardening table set underneath a new cucumber trellis. Families will also notice they have more room to explore under a new heightened 'tunnel' as they crawl through creeping thyme.

Our plot is situated within the Lakefield Community Garden onsite at the Lakefield District Public School. Families are welcome to visit it during a Lakefield Play To Learn or join in on our Little Gardeners program which returns this summer.
