This could be the largest student initiative ever undertaken at Trent University. The Peterborough Student Co-operative seeks to establish an affordable housing alternative to on-campus residence and downtown landlords. As members of a non-profit student cooperative, every month of rent we pay would go straight into the buildings we live in and the food we eat; in fact, we would be our own landlor
ds! While focused primarily on affordability and community, the vision of this project is to re-establish a link with downtown Peterborough. We are considering a number of potential site locations. PSCR offers an opportunity to revitalize the college system and downtown student communities. The cooperative will be a sustainable project that will combine social events with community involvement and educational opportunities. The possibilities for involvement at this stage of development are endless. We currently have an elected Board of Directors and four Member Committees, including Site Planning, Finance, Community Relations, and Operations. Over the summer, the Board of Directors meets fortnightly, with the Site Selection and Finance Committees also meeting fortnightly. All members are encouraged to sign-up for a committee and contribute their energy and knowledge to the effort! If you are part of the student, alumni, staff, faculty or Peterborough communities and would like to get more involved, please contact us for more information.
