Every unnecessary step in cancer prevention is a missed opportunity. This HPV Prevention Week, the Federation of Medical Women of Canada is calling on Ontario to make HPV vaccination more accessible by allowing pharmacists to prescribe and administer the vaccine. A “No Wrong Door” approach could help remove barriers and make it easier for Ontarians to access this important cancer prevention tool.

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Federation of Medical Women of Canada pauses to honour the survivors - the children who never returned home, and the families and communities forever altered by the legacy of residential schools. This day is a solemn reminder of our collective responsibility to listen, remember, and take meaningful action toward healing.

In reflecting on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, we recognize that Calls 23 and 24 place a vital focus on Indigenous learners and healthcare providers. They emphasize that true health equity cannot be achieved without genuine representation in the health professions and the systemic establishment of culturally safe care. While steps have been taken toward change, we acknowledge that profound gaps and systemic biases persist within our healthcare system. FMWC remains deeply committed to dismantling systemic barriers and to ensuring safe, compassionate care for all Indigenous peoples.
