Not sure where to start with weather preparedness? Start by assessing where you are.

The Self-Assessment tool helps live music professionals in Canada identify the weather risks that affect their event, take stock of what’s already in place, and determine where attention is most needed.

Fill in the User Inputs tab using the dropdowns, then review your exposure score, preparedness score, strengths, and suggested next steps. The Methods tab explains how it all works.

It’s designed for festivals, venues, promoters, presenters, touring teams, production suppliers, and related organizations, and it’s free. It’s a first step in the Assess phase of our Climate Contingency Roadmap toolkit, created to help the sector respond to climate risk.

The Canadian Live Music Association's new national report, Sound Check: Climate Risk and Resilience in Canada's Live Music Sector, looks at how climate change is affecting live events across the country.

Key findings:
• 70% of respondents report at least one high-impact weather day per year resulting in partial or full cancellation
• 90% report direct financial costs or losses
• Only 15% have purchased adverse weather insurance
• $1.2B to $3.0B in economic value is at risk between now and 2040

The CLMA has also released the first resources from its free Climate Contingency Toolkit, offering practical tools for live music professionals planning for climate-related disruption.

Today at Werklund Centre, the CLMA released the findings of its national climate risk study, 'Sound Check: Climate Risk and Resilience in Canada's Live Music Sector.'

The report finds that weather-related disruption to live music events has risen eightfold, from an average of 8 per year (2010 to 2022) to more than 65 per year (2023 to 2025).

Left unaddressed, up to $3 billion in economic value is at risk by 2040.

To help the sector respond, the CLMA released the first resources from its Climate Contingency Toolkit alongside the report. The free toolkit translates the findings into decision-making frameworks, hazard-specific standard operating procedures, and other practical tools for planning for and responding to climate-related disruption.

Weather-related disruption to live music events in Canada has risen from an average of 8 reported incidents per year (2010–2022) to more than 65 per year (2023–2025), an eightfold increase.

On October 1, we're releasing ‘Sound Check: Climate Risk and Resilience in Canada's Live Music Sector,’ a national report built on our Climate Contingency survey, industry interviews, and climate projections through 2050.

Alongside the report, the first resources from the Climate Contingency Roadmap toolkit go live, giving live music professionals practical tools to plan for and respond to climate-related disruption.
