We began the summer season with the heaviness of the announcement of provincial defunding of supervised consumption sites, which kicked off a wave of distress among many frontline community workers. For some, political action was their answer. For many, there was grief. For others, there was withdrawal. All of these responses are real. What we are buoyed by, however, is that, for some, collective care was a balm.
We were honoured to host many teams over the summer who continued to offer care to the community in spite of their grief, overwhelm and fatigue. We are so grateful for the trust put in us to support workers from Ottawa Inner City Health, Sandy Hill CHC / CSC Côte-de-sable, Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre, Somerset West Community Health Centre, Centretown CHC | CSC du Centre-ville and Montfort Renaissance. Together we shared feelings of grief as well as joy through play, knowing that throughout these difficult times, we aren’t alone. Thank you to these workers, and to our volunteers, and our partners at Earthen vessels for showing up, even in the hard times, to offer collective care.
As we enter the fall season, we will be turning inward to engage in training, meetings (our first AGM as a non-profit!), and planning for future offerings; our cocooning in prep for the winter season. We also look forward to another community gratitude sound bath with Ottawa Community Energy Healing in November - we hope to see you there (info coming soon)!
