Isabelle Foster: Cooler on the Coast
https://www.folkcanada.com/post/isabelle-foster-cooler-on-the-coast

Isabelle Foster’s debut EP, Cooler on the Coast, introduces a new voice to the industry. Her songs explore the rollercoaster of emotions that come with growing up as a teenager today. Isabelle uses a folk-pop genre, with just a hint of country to make her songs come to life.

Produced by JUNO Award-winning creator, Corey LeRue, the release showcases her youthful energy and heartfelt lyrics with bridges, harmonies and transitions that keep you hooked until the end.

“Everything I write is based on personal experience”, says Isabelle. ""The first two songs, Rewind and A Piece of Me, are about realizing you are not where you should be in a relationship, the struggle to let it go, and finally choosing yourself over something that drains you. All of the Above is a classic, sweet love song about young passion and appreciating every moment spent together, while Cool on the Coast describes the fantasy of a perfect future filled with hope and romance”.

Whether it’s discovering self-worth, healing after heartbreak, or being in love, the music of this 15-year-old singer-songwriter, based in Halifax NS, is honest and relatable for all ages. Her fresh, authentic voice and lyrics position Isabelle as a promising emerging artist and have secured her a spot in this summer’s Winnipeg Folk Festival Young Performers Program.

https://www.folkcanada.com/post/the-mcdades-thread-the-light

Release: May 29, 2026

For more than two decades, The McDades have been carving out a sound that refuses to sit still. Rooted in Celtic and Canadian folk traditions, the Juno and Canadian Folk Award–winning ensemble blends the freedom of jazz improvisation with global rhythms, deep grooves, and an unshakable sense of family.

What began as a shared language learned at home has grown into a musical conversation that continues to evolve onstage and in the studio. The McDades’ latest release, Thread The Light, due out May 29th, 2026 on Free Radio Records, pushes further into groove, composition, and collective exploration.

David James Allen: The Moonlight Waltz
https://www.folkcanada.com/post/david-james-allen-the-moonlight-waltz

David James Allen returns with “The Moonlight Waltz” (out May 22, 2026 via Littleknown Records), a late-night country-soul waltz steeped in wah guitar, pedal steel, and a swirly lived-in groove. Drawing from the spirit of The Band, Little Feat, and classic country-soul, the track reflects on closing-time bar culture, the pull of freedom and excess, and the lonely cost of self-destruction. Warm, cinematic, and reflective, it’s a song about chasing magic in the wrong places. This is the third single from David's forthcoming album Jubilation Potpourri out Fall 2026.

Hayley Bleho: Bethany
https://www.folkcanada.com/post/hayley-bleho-bethany

The debut single from Montreal singer-songwriter Hayley Bleho, “Bethany” centres around her childhood best friend who moves across the country after elementary school. Across recesses, lunch breaks, and anxiety-filled birthday parties, the lyrics chart the emotional ups and downs and insecurities of a kid struggling for a sense of belonging even before her closest friend is uprooted.

Carried by folk-inflected guitar playing and dreamy alt-rock vocals, and written in the wake of a different kind of loss (that of her mother), ""Bethany"" captures that desperate longing for connection, and the hollow feeling that comes when that connection moves beyond your reach.
----
Hayley Bleho is an indie-rock singer-songwriter and guitarist hailing from Montreal, Quebec. With a knack for melody and a nostalgic feel, Hayley’s songs reckon with things said and things left unsaid, with what-ifs and maybes, bubbling with energy, humour, and emotion. Her debut EP, Rabbit Rabbit, is a raw, guitar-driven exploration of love, grief, and memory. Out everywhere June 12th.

Macsmusic: Winter Is Here
https://www.folkcanada.com/post/macsmusic-winter-is-here

Ken McLachlin, who performs as macsmusic, lives in Point Edward, located in southwestern Ontario.
A longtime folk music artist, he recently released his third solo EP album titled, Winter Is Here.

The album is a reflective look at life from someone who has more years behind him than ahead of him. As such, Ken thought that the season of Winter would be a most appropriate metaphor.

Winter Is Here has a very grassroots, acoustic guitar, folk feel that features 7 new songs, including an East Coast Sea Shanty and a cover of Valdy's Play Me A Rock 'n Roll Song.

(Valdy has been an unwitting musical mentor of Ken's for decades.) The remainder are all original compositions.

Winter Is Here is available to hear on Subvert and Bandcamp.
