Chris McKhool: Animal Samba
https://www.folkcanada.com/post/chris-mckhool-animal-samba

ANIMAL SAMBA is an irresistible new family video from acclaimed Canadian children's musician Chris McKhool that gets kids moving, singing, and discovering the natural world through music. From his upcoming album Global Dance Party! (Nov 6/26), Animal Samba blends infectious samba-inspired rhythms with hand percussion, playful animal movements, and uplifting lyrics. The song invites listeners to clap flamenco rhythms, prowl like cats, soar with ravens, and splash like giant blue whales. It's an energetic celebration of imagination, wildlife, and our connection to the heartbeat of the Earth.

Perfect for festivals, family dance parties, classrooms, and young adventurers, Animal Samba encourages active participation while fostering curiosity about animals and music from around the world. A Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal recipient, 2x JUNO nominee with his music for children, and award-winning educator, Chris McKhool continues his mission of creating joyful, inclusive music that inspires children to learn, laugh, and move together.

McKhool's credentials speak to a career built on both artistry and impact. A Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal recipient, and multiple Canadian Folk Music Award winner, he has performed for more than a million children across North America and has appeared on Mr. Dressup, YTV’s Treehouse, and CBC. Little Leaf, his most recent full length album, earned him a 2026 JUNO nomination for Children's Album of the Year, following an earlier nomination for FiddleFire!, and the momentum from that recognition helped fuel a 50-show Canadian tour.

Merch Girl Records Announces VANCAMP’s New EP, House Parties in the Avenues

Merch Girl Records is proud to announce House Parties in the Avenues, the new EP from Peterborough-based indie pop-rock band VANCAMP.

Written by frontman Calvin Bakelaar in the years following university and during the uncertainty of the pandemic, the record reflects the disorientation of small-town life in your twenties. Across the collection, VANCAMP explores strained friendships, people-pleasing, broken promises, and the restless feeling of wanting to escape a place you had wanted to be only moments before.

Blending indie rock, folk, pop, and modern country influences, House Parties in the Avenues pairs personal storytelling with energetic full-band arrangements and memorable choruses. The EP was produced by Tristan Konkle and recorded at Electric Alchemy Studio in Peterborough, Ontario.

Named Emerging Artist of the Year (2024) by the Peterborough Folk Festival and an alumnus of the Mariposa Folk Festival, VANCAMP has performed more than 100 shows across Ontario and Quebec since 2022. The five-piece has built a reputation for live performances that move between stripped-down intimacy and high-energy, communal moments.

House Parties in the Avenues marks a new chapter for VANCAMP and continues Merch Girl Records’ commitment to supporting independent Canadian artists rooted in honest songwriting, community, and a DIY spirit.

Secondhand Dreamcar: Take Your Mind Off It, Baby
https://www.folkcanada.com/post/secondhand-dreamcar-take-your-mind-off-it-baby

Edmonton nine-piece Secondhand Dreamcar has released "Take Your Mind Off It, Baby," a feel-good new single that captures the electricity of the JUNO-nominated group's celebrated live shows and serves as the lead track from their upcoming sophomore album, Get Ready, due out September 2026.

Bursting with soulful vocals, driving rhythms, vibrant horn arrangements, and joyful energy, the single offers an irresistible rock 'n' roll introduction to a record that showcases the band's evolution while staying rooted in the timeless sounds that have made them one of Canada's most exciting independent acts. ""Take Your Mind Off It, Baby"" is out now everywhere you listen, accompanied by a brand new video.

Fronted by Dana Wylie, Secondhand Dreamcar blends blues, soul, funk, and roots music, drawing comparisons to Three Dog Night and Tedeschi Trucks Band. The group has earned national media coverage on CBC Radio, Jazz FM, Global News, and CityNews Edmonton, with journalist Peter North calling them ""the most exciting thing to come out of the city since k.d. lang and the Reclines."" CKUA helped push their debut album, Answer the Call, to No. 6 on the station's Top 100 Albums of 2024.

That debut earned Secondhand Dreamcar their first JUNO nomination for Blues Album of the Year, making them the only fully independent act and first-time nominee in the category. They've since picked up three 2026 Canadian Blues Music Award nominations and a Western Canadian Music Award nod, alongside standout sets at the Edmonton Folk Festival and Calgary Blues Festival - momentum that now carries into Get Ready.
