Check out the latest from our Clean Economy Working Paper Series: a new release from Simon Fraser University’s Sarah Ozog.

This paper examines the alignment of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) with British Columbia’s clean energy policy framework.

It assesses provincial efforts to reconcile clean energy objectives with UNDRIP implementation and offers guidelines to support policy development and implementation in the clean energy sector.

The guidance presented has value for all levels of government and industry seeking to align First Nations objectives with clean energy development.

New research project: Financing Canada's cleantech sector

The Smart Prosperity Institute and the Schulich School of Business - York University are conducting a joint quarterly survey to better understand the relationship between financing strategies and the growth of Canada’s clean technology sector.

The survey explores how investors, financial institutions, and cleantech companies use and evaluate various finance strategies and instruments (including sustainable finance), as well as the opportunities and barriers they encounter.

It’s Orientation Week at uOttawa and the Smart Prosperity Institute is excited to take part in a number of welcome activities as the campus springs back to life.

Based at the Institute of the Environment, we are proud members of the university community. You can find our offices at 1 Stewart Street on the north end of campus.

We look forward to meeting the new cohort of MES and PhD students pursuing their graduate studies in environmental sustainability over the coming days and weeks, and to catching up with some familiar faces as well.

The Smart Prosperity Institute’s Economics & Environmental Policy Research Network has awarded over $150,000 in funding to new research on clean growth and competitiveness strategies for a decarbonizing economy.

We’re excited to introduce the 2026 research cohort: seven cutting-edge projects chosen to broaden our understanding of the environment-economy nexus.

Earlier this summer, the Smart Prosperity Institute participated in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s ongoing national consultation on the Next Policy Framework (NPF).

The NPF is an upcoming five-year federal, provincial, and territorial investment that aims to strengthen and grow the agriculture and agri-food sector.

We were glad to contribute a written submission addressing key questions about the challenges and opportunities facing the sector to help develop the new framework and guide its priorities and vision.

In an era when Canada faces significant climate, market, and political variability, we recommend that resilience be recognized as a key focus of the NPF, which should prioritize opportunities that simultaneously support the economic and environmental resilience of Canadian farmers.
