Come Together, Canada. Stronger connections. Better mental health.
May 4- May 10

This week, we invite you to take one small step toward connections either with someone else  or in your own life:
* reach out to a colleague, friend, acquaintance etc.
* create space for an honest, human conversation
* tell someone about your own struggles and or recovery
* check in with someone you haven’t connected with in a while
* or take a moment to check in with yourself

Connection does not have to be big to be meaningful.

Mental Health Week is also an opportunity to take action and help amplify the importance of connection across your communities and workplaces. Today there are so many ways to do this; email, text, phone call, social media and in person.  Even just a coffee with someone can make all the difference and start to build stronger connections.

Check out Mood Disorders Ottawa (MDO) to find out how we are making connections.

Jot-A-Lot Journalling uses a variety of journaling methods combined with peer shares and support to assist in our mental health journey. The benefits of journaling to both mental and physical wellbeing are well documented. Using a journal for free-writing, worksheets, prompts or doing set exercises provides a safe outlet for examining and processing difficult emotions and situations. It also provides an opportunity to record positive thoughts, affirmations and events to serve as a reminder during more difficult times.

The Pathways to Recovery program (12 weeks) and workbook takes a strengths based, self help approach to recovery. Pathways will take you through a process of exploring your own recovery journey while creating a long-range vision for your life. It helps you to identify your personal strengths and dreams, and refocus on reclaiming positive sources of identity and a life beyond being a person with a mood disorder or a consumer of mental health services. It helps you think about and plan how to improve your quality of life and to live a full life, despite your history or challenges.
Our goal in using this program is to provide a supportive culture for people to explore their own recovery in a self-directed and self-controlled way, but done in group so that the experience can involve mutual support and building relationships that support and sustain recovery. Our hope is that people who participate in this program, and incorporate the work into their own journeys of healing, will one day receive most of their life’s supports and resources outside of the mental health system.

MDO offers - The Writers Collective of Canada workshop is a program for those who wish to explore their creative genius with free, expressive writing, and receive supportive feedback.

The Writers Collective aims to inspire and empower those deprived of a voice in our society. Writing with others in an atmosphere of dignity and respect, participants discover the value of their own life stories. We support the transformational power of being heard. Feedback is provided in a non-judgemental brave space. If you would like your writing to remain private, you are free to pass on sharing. English DOES NOT have to be your first language.
