September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Audrey’s long journey began in December 2023, at the age of two, with a diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Her two-and-a-half-year treatment plan was administered at both BC Children’s Hospital and the Victoria General Paediatric Oncology Department.

Despite the physical and emotional challenges of the second half of her life, Audrey is now a bright, happy light who loves dancing and playing princesses and doctor (Audrey loved every doctor and nurse she met). Her exuberance and love for everything life offers inspire all who meet her.

Audrey and her family look forward to planning her Dream trip to Disney in 2027.

👏 A huge thank you to the students and staff at Prospect Lake Elementary School for their very generous donation of $750. Read on to learn about the educational and innovative way these Grade 5 students raised funds. It’s so inspiring to see kids supporting kids! 💙

Here’s the letter and photos we received from Prospect Lake Elementary School staff members:

The funds were raised through our grade 5 class participating in a PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs event, which was officially held on Thursday, June 18 however the project was actually a month in the making. Each child developed a small business plan to create something and sell it at our school to families and students at an 'Entrepreneur Fair'. They worked through various stages of planning (what am I interested in making), collecting data (surveying students as to what they would prefer to buy), coming up with a budget (they quickly learned the less overhead the more profit), selling to students and families on the day (we learned about how to engage customers and how to make change), and reconciling their money to find out our total class profits (lots of math!).

After we had determined what profit we had made, the children chose a charity to donate all of their earnings to. After discussing where we would donate our profits, our class chose to donate to Help Fill a Dream as it directly supported local children and families. This was very important to our class as they could empathize deeply with families who were overcoming challenging circumstances. The discussion was rich and the class overwhelmingly voted to donate all of their earnings to other children.

We are very proud of their commitment and engagement in this event.
