This workshop provides an overview of recent changes to BC’s Inclusive Education Manual, focusing on updates to Ministry designations and Individual Education Plan (IEP) guidelines.

Participants will explore BC’s three Core Competencies—Communication, Thinking, and Personal and Social—and how they inform Competency-Based IEP goals and supports. The session will also provide practical strategies for parents to collaborate with schools in developing meaningful, student-centred IEPs.

We are pleased to share that Disability Alliance BC and the VDRC will be hosting a virtual All Candidates Forum for the upcoming provincial election!

Thursday, October 15, 2026
5:00–7:00 p.m.
Via Zoom (link at the bottom of post)

The forum will focus on issues that have a significant impact on people with disabilities, including PWD disability assistance rates, accessible and affordable housing, and access to health care. Candidates will be asked questions on these topics and given an opportunity to share what they and their parties would do to address them.

We have added an evening session of this Learning Exploration!

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) announced upcoming changes to Children and Youth with Support Needs (CYSN) services in BC.

This session by FSI Executive Director Angela Clancy will offer a clear overview of the changes. Using a simple journey map, we will walk through how families currently access supports, what the proposed model is intended to look like, and—most importantly—what is known with certainty versus what remains unclear.

The goal of this session is to equip everyone with accurate information so they can feel more informed during a time of significant uncertainty and change. We will also share how FSI is advocating to ensure family voices are heard and that no child, youth, or family is left behind as these changes are implemented.

Families of children and youth with cerebral palsy and related disabilities are invited to an interactive virtual workshop on adult transitions.

This workshop is led by a speaker panel featuring lawyers Don Renaud and Chris Lee, who will address legal solutions, adult representation, and decision-making authority for post-18 transitions; and Jeanne Morton from Cerebral Palsy Association of BC, who will tackle systemic funding cuts and highlight community-based solutions.

This session has been changed from Burnaby in-person to virtual on Zoom, to ensure this information is accessible to families across the province.

Interested in playing some fun video games with friends? Wa-hoo!

Next Tuesday, October 6th, from 2:30pm to 4:00pm, we're hosting an Accessible Gaming Hangout! We'll be featuring a variety of Nintendo Switch games that can be played with two or more players! Many of these games also have some really neat accessibility features!

The game line-up includes:
-Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: classic racing fun for up to four players, with steering wheel controllers!
-The Vale: Shadow of the Crown: an immersive role-playing game that is entirely
played through audio cues, ideal for people who are blind!
-Super Mario Party: a competitive multiplayer with a large collection of fun mini games!
-Nintendo Switch Sports: a variety of sports, including bowling, basketball and more, with simple motion controls
