🌞🍦 Enjoy the sweet days of summer!

Join us tomorrow at the West Shore Child, Youth & Family Centre and treat yourself to some ice cream while the warm weather is still here. Our friends from The Ice Cream Truck will be serving up sweet treats, with a portion of proceeds supporting Island kids and families.

We'll also have a special display for anyone interested in exploring our 99-year history and learning more about the impact of community support over the years.

The first day of school can bring a mix of emotions — excitement, nervousness, curiosity, and uncertainty. A little preparation and support can help children and youth feel more confident as they step into a new school year.

Here are some simple ways to support a successful first day:

✨ Review the plan for the day so your child knows what to expect
✨ Build in extra time for a calm morning routine
✨ Encourage your child to practice asking for help if they need it
✨ Remind them of familiar supports and safe adults at school
✨ Celebrate effort, bravery, and trying something new
✨ Create a plan for reconnecting after school (snack, quiet time, sharing about the day)

Remember: the first day doesn’t need to be perfect. The goal is to help children feel safe, supported, and confident knowing they have people who understand and support them. 💛

Interested in playing some fun video games with friends? Wa-hoo!

Next Tuesday, June 2nd, from 2:30pm to 4:00pm, we're hosting an Accessible Gaming Hangout! We'll be featuring a variety of Nintendo Switch games that can be played with two or more players! Many of these games also have some really neat accessibility features!

The game line-up includes:
-Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: classic racing fun for up to four players, with steering wheel controllers!
-The Vale: Shadow of the Crown: an immersive role-playing game that is entirely
played through audio cues, ideal for people who are blind!
-Super Mario Party: a competitive multiplayer with a large collection of fun mini games!
-Nintendo Switch Sports: a variety of sports, including bowling, basketball and more, with simple motion controls
