🥬 Fresh from the Farm to your office!

We are excited to launch our new Farm to Office delivery program, making it easier for your team to enjoy fresh, locally grown greens delivered to your workplace.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Place your order every Monday.
Step 2: We’ll harvest and prepare your fresh greens and deliver them directly to your office later that week.

What’s in a $50 case?
Each case includes 10 bags of fresh greens:
• 4 Spinach
• 4 Romaine
• 2 Mixed Lettuce

Ready to order?
Email [email protected] with your business name, address, and the number of cases you’d like to receive.

We’re currently delivering to businesses in New Glasgow, Stellarton, Trenton, and Westville as we launch the program and see how it grows.

Stop by the Farm Gate Store at Summer Street Farm and support five participant vendors who will be sharing and selling their own creations.

Molly will have handmade pens, Josh will be bringing artwork and baked goods, Dave and Sherri will have artwork and paintings, and Melissa will be sharing her diamond art.

This is our last week of extended summer hours at our Farm Gate Store, so be sure to drop by before we switch to our fall schedule!

“One of the first questions wasn’t, ‘What should we grow?’ It was, ‘What should the farm mean?’” 🌱

At the Local Prosperity Festival & Conference earlier this month, Participant Council member Tracy Hermillon shared how participants helped shape the vision for Summer Street Farm from the very beginning.

Tracy has been part of Summer Street’s Participant Council for many years and has held several roles at Summer Street, including working at reception, in the former New Beginnings retail store, and selling Summer Street products at the New Glasgow Farmers’ Market.

“We were invited to help create the vision. We talked about what would make the farm successful. We talked about what mattered most.” Those conversations led Participant Council to establish three simple goals that continue to guide the farm today: Eat. Work. Give.

For Tracy, the experience is also an example of why participant leadership matters. When people are included in decisions from the beginning, their ideas can help shape what comes next. Summer Street Farm is stronger because participants helped build its vision from the start.

Today, the farm is one more way Summer Street is creating meaningful opportunities for people with diverse abilities to learn, work, contribute, and pursue their goals while strengthening our local food system and community along the way.

At last week’s Local Prosperity Festival & Conference, Emily Dignan shared what she appreciates about Summer Street being a participant-led organization, one where participants are included in organizational planning, encouraged to share their ideas and supported in reaching their goals.

“One of the things I appreciate most about Summer Street is that people don’t make decisions for us without including us. We are encouraged to share our ideas, ask questions and help shape the future of the organization.”

Emily is now reaching one of her own goals by taking on a new role in our Farm Gate Store, something she has wanted to do for quite a while.

Eat. Work. Give. 🌱

Those three simple goals have guided Summer Street Farm from its earliest conversations to the farm it is today.

Last Friday at the Local Prosperity Festival and Conference at Tatamagouche Regional Academy, Participant Council representatives Tracy Hermillon and Emily Dignan were joined by Fund Development Officer Liz LaPier and Farm Manager Cathy Munro to present Growing More Than Food: A Participant-Led Farm Strengthening Community, Food Security, and Local Economies.

Emily began by sharing what Summer Street has meant in her own life. It is a place where she has gained confidence and independence, built meaningful friendships, and found opportunities to advocate for herself and her peers.

Today, Emily begins a new role in the Farm Gate Store. It is something she has wanted to do for a long time, and it means even more knowing she helped shape what the farm has become.

Tracy has been part of the farm journey from the beginning. When conversations about the project first started, participants were asked an important question: not simply what should the farm grow, but what should it mean?

Through those conversations, Participant Council identified three goals that still guide the farm:

🌱 Eat - grow fresh, healthy food locally and make it available in our community
🌱 Work - create meaningful employment and opportunities to learn new skills
🌱 Give - share what we grow and strengthen our community

Today, approximately 40% of what we grow at Summer Street Farm is donated back into community organizations and food-security initiatives throughout Pictou County.

Thank you to the organizers and everyone who joined us. It was a wonderful opportunity to share not only what we have built, but how we built it - and how participant leadership, meaningful employment, and community partnerships have helped the farm grow far more than food.
