Northern Region Respite Services

Northern Region Respite Services Northern Region Respite Services is a non-profit, community-based service funded by the Department of Community Services.

Our service helps families plan relief care for children and adults who have a developmental delay or disability. Northern Region Respite Services is managed by Highland Community Residential Services. Respite Service provides support and assistance to adults, youth, and children living with intellectual disabilities. The Respite Coordinator helps match families with suitable respite providers. A

respite database exists at http://respitens.ca/ which is used by the Respite Coordinator as well as by approved families and respite providers. Families who are interested in accessing respite services can complete an online registration form at http://respitens.ca/. Our Pictou County Chapter also offers other services in conjunction with our 1-1 respite program. They are as follows:

- Respite Saturdays
- 19+ Respite Program
- Summer Recreation
- 19+ Inclusion Program

The next 5 months are jam-packed with some amazing programs for both our 18 and under participants along with our 19+ participants!

From fee-based programs to monthly FREE programs there is something for everyone. Our goal is to always eliminate barriers, ensure inclusive supports are in place, and that every child can participate in all activities and programs provided!

A few of our upcoming programs are as follows but are not limited to:

19+ Weekly program - Fee-based
19+ Monthly Social - FREE program
Saturday Social - 18 & under FREE program
March Break Camp - 6-18yrs old Fee-based
Fun Friday - All participants FREE program

2024 was full of some amazing memories and moments for our 19+ program and 2025 is setting up to be even better.

The main goal for the program is to keep growing, keep developing, and create the most universally accessible and inclusive 19+ program possible for our participants!

2025 Goals:

- Double in participant size
- grow our incredible support staff resources
- build more community connections
- create amazing memories and moments
- support each participant with individualized goals and future plans
and SO MUCH MORE!

We need your help!

You may have noticed you haven’t been able to find us on instagram lately.

Well that is sadly because a hacker had gotten ahold of an employees account which then deactivated and deleted our account. 😢

With that we are working hard to build back up and create another resource and platform for participants and community supports to connect with us.

So our ask is simple, head on over to on instagram and give us a follow, and if you want to go a step further share this page or our IG page to help bring the community to our soon redeveloped and thriving platform.

The countdown is officially on!

NRRS March Break 2025 is happening and we are already over halfway filled with amazing participants!!!

This year we are offering an incredible March Break Camp program to those in Pictou County 6-18 with diverse abilities.

Things we always provide:
Small ratios! ( 4-1)
Snacks and Lunches every day! ( and don't worry they are all sensory/ texture friendly)
Age appropriate individualized group activities
March break is just 3 months away, which may sound like a lot of time but you are going to blink and then it will be here. having!
