DID YOU KNOW....
That in the late 1930's began the annual bonspiels at the Bluenose Curling Club? Annual bonspiels at the club began in the late 1930's, spearheaded by Owen R. Fraser with the support of club members. Under his leadershop, business firms donatd prizes for a week-long competition involving curlers from across the province. A record was set in 1948 when the Bluenose Club Hospital Bonspiel raised $2,278.87 for the Auxiliary which would be $20,000 today.

This year, as Aberdeen Health Foundation celebrates 40 years, we're also recognizing another remarkable milestone in local health care - 130 years of service from the Aberdeen Hospital Auxiliary.

Founded in 1896, before Aberdeen Hospital officially opened its doors, the Auxiliary has helped shape health care in Pictou County as we know it, advocating for the hospital's first maternity ward, funding fire escapes following a devastating hospital fire, and supporting countless advancements in patient care. With more than 4,500 volunteer hours contributed last year alone, Auxiliary members continue a tradition of service that has spanned generations.

DID YOU KNOW? ....
That during the 1930's when the Great Depression hit Pictou County hard, a partnership between the Auxiliary and the Goodman Department Store offered a glimmer of light? In the mid-1930's, brothers Harry and Solomon Goodman, proprietors of Goodman Company Ltd., hosted fashion shows and donated the proceeds to the Auxiliary.
